Prince William: spoiled brat who wants a job in the Foreign Office as an excuse to put off full-time royal duties, or modern, independent royal?

There are two bits of William news I would like to discuss.  First, there is a Mirror article about his next career move (hint: it’s not full-time royal work).  Second, there is a Robert Jobson article about how William wants to modernize the Monarchy by doing things “his way”.

William reportedly wants a job in the Foreign Office to help prepare him for when he is king.  It would be a “full-time position” as he is keen to have a full-time job—as long as it has nothing to do with royal duties and allows for lots of vacation time.  A source said: “He will come to the end of his ‘transitional year’ in the autumn and has made it clear he wishes to begin full-time work again.”

Prince William knights doctor who delivered George, and other news.

Random info: Whenever I see the word “doctor” followed by the word “who” in a sentence, I automatically think of Doctor Who, the television show.  I’m a Whovian.

There is some random Kate and William bits to report:

  • Prince William knighted the man who delivered Prince George.  Sir Marcus Setchell (as he is now known) was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order yesterday at Buckingham Palace.  William performed the investiture.  Setchell saved the lives of Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Lady Louise Windsor in 2003, when he delivered Louise a month early via cesarean.  Sophie almost died.  If Setchell was going to be knighted, he should have been knighted for that, not for delivering George.  I do love that Setchell is so “I don’t give a sh-t” about delivering George.  He said, “[delivering George was] just the same pleasurable, lovely experience [as every other delivery].”  Links:  Express article.  Telegraph article.
  • William and Kate have reportedly made a donation of £5,000 to the town of Rhyl in Anglesey somewhere in Wales that is near Anglesey to help with the flooding and flood victims.  It was a “private” donation.  I don’t know what that means and don’t know where the money came from.  This is good, I guess, right?  The number’s kind of small, though.  They spent more on their vacation.  Links:  Telegraph article.
  • William, Kate and Harry attended a black tie, Chairman’s dinner at Buckingham Palace Monday night a Patrons of the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry (damn that name is a mouthful).  Kate wore a long, white dress.  Links:  Rebecca English twitter.  Richard Palmer twitterNiraj Tanna twitter.

The defense of Will and Kate’s decision to leave George behind doesn’t hold much water

So there has been backlash to Will and Kate (especially, because she’s a woman and women always get sh-t on harder than men) leaving poor little George (their PR stunt baby) behind with Carole and a nanny while Will and Kate jet off on a week-long holiday in the Maldives.  To me, this is not surprising.  Of course they would get backlash for leaving their son behind, that’s half the reason they’re taking him to Oz.  They really are idiots, or they thought they wouldn’t get caught going on this trip, for leaving George.  Anyway, there hasn’t been as much backlash from the press, because they got to go to a private meeting at KP where they met George so they won’t print anything negative.  There has also been some backlash about the cost of their trip—reportedly one villa costs $10,000 for 4 days, and each meal costs $500, and that doesn’t include the plane costs and all the costs for the security team they brought with them.

Kate and William take a vacation: Maldives edition (updated)

Kate and William have reportedly jetted off on yet another holiday, this time to the Maldives.  This makes three holidays for the Cambs this year: Mustique – Kate and George; Spain – William; Maldives – Kate and William.  It is unclear whether George is with the Cambs in the Maldives.  I’m going to guess they left him with the nannies. UPDATE: Reportedly George has been left with Carole while Will and Kate are away. He is accompanied by a full protection detail. /UPDATE Hilarious how Will and Kate say they don’t want to go anywhere with out him, yet William spent a week away from George while he was in Mustique with Kate, and now they are both spending a week away from him. They probably didn’t think they’d get caught going on vacation.

Maori King refuses to meet with Will and Kate: royal snub or was KP disrespectful?

There is already controversy surrounding Will and Kate’s Oz tour.  The King of the Maoris, Tuheitia Paki, has called off Will and Kate’s visit to Turangawaewae Marae because KP only allotted 90 minutes for the visit, and made a bunch of demands, and it would have broken proper protocol.

Will and Kate wanted to respect the indigenous people, but more importantly follow in the footsteps of the Queen and Philip who visited the Maori in 1953, but the Maori king refused to see them under the circumstances and now it’s a big thing.

Kate spent £1 million on KP and doesn’t like the paint, apparently + William preforms an investiture while Kate attends a party

This is a catch-all post for some Will and Kate news before I move on.

Kate apparently isn’t happy with the color scheme in her newly redecorated Kensington Palace apartment. They spent £1 million of taxpayer money to fix it up, and now she wants to change stuff. A source said, “she wasn’t happy with the result [of the paint], and one room came out with a horrible, unexpected purple tinge. She’s blaming it on her hormones [cough] before the birth [cough cough].” They’ve reportedly hired some fancy designer. Honestly, the article is as much about this guy as it is about Kate, so I’m not sure if this article is accurate or if it is a plug by the designer to get some publicity–it might be both, they may have hired a designer and he wants attention for it. He’s supposedly also going to decorate Anmer Hall. Going back to the cost of all this, a KP spokesperson said, “the cost of any interior decorating and furnishing would be covered privately by the Royal Family. [The £1 million of public money was spent on] essential structural work that needed to be completed by whoever moved into the buildings.” So there’s that.

Kate and Will enjoy a night on the town, away from George

Kate and William went out the other night with some friends to Bunga Bunga in Battersea.  They were with friends, one who was celebrating a birthday and is pregnant or something.  I don’t really care about the details, go to the Mail to read that if interested.  What I care about is the photos, and how far apart Will and Kate are in them.  Oh, and Kate is wearing an awful coat that she really just needs to burn.  That coat is so ugly.

KP released OZ/NZ tour details: Will and Kate are definitely bringing George

Kensington Palace released the official details for Will and Kate’s royal tour of Australia and New Zealand.  And guess what… George is going!  Of course he is.  Was that really ever debated?  I guess the palace was trying to play coy for months, but their efforts were a waste of time.  We will see George about 6 times, getting on and off planes and at least one appearance in Oz and one in NZ.

The tour will be from April 7-25.  The tour will begin in New Zealand on the 7th then they will travel to Australia on the 16th, they leave on the 25th.  Free days include the 8th, 15th, and the 21st.  Here is the official press release from KP; here is a detailed itinerary from Hello!  You can read William’s private secretary Miguel Head’s remarks here—it is really long.

Is Prince William planning on running a marathon in Jecca Craig’s estate in Africa?

Prince William might be planning to visit Jecca Craig in Africa in June to take part in the Safaricom Marathon at the Lewa Downs wildlife reserve owed by Jecca’s father, Ian Craig.

William has “expressed a desire to take part in the marathon to raise money for the Tusk Trust”, but a Kensington Palace spokesman said William’s participation hasn’t been confirmed.
