Royal Round Up: Letizia, Camilla, Madeleine, Charlene

Queen Letizia went all of 2016 without wearing a tiara, but she kicked off 2017 with a bang, wearing the biggest tiara in the Spanish Royal Family collection for her first State Visit of the year. Also in this post updates from Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Madeleine, and Princess Charlene.

Crown Princess Victoria & Princess Sofia at Sweden Dinner, Princess Madeleine in New York

Friday, September 16, saw King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, and Princess Sofia attend the Sweden Dinner at the Royal Palace, while Princess Madeleine was in New York. Victoria has been in New York this week but her trip doesn’t end until the 23rd, so I’m going to wait and throw her entire trip into one post.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex visits NYC, wears navy at September 11 Memorial (updated with speech)

Do you guys remember when Duchess Kate wore bright pink to the September 11 Memorial the day after she wore black to wrap Christmas presents with kids in December 2014? And do you remember how the Kate-stans defended that decision by pointing out that The Queen and Camilla also wore shades of pink to the September 11 Memorial (which I’m having trouble finding photos of)? Well, Sophie, Countess of Wessex don’t roll like that, yo. Sophie wears navy when visiting a site in memory of one of the worst tragedies on US soil in history.

Kate Middleton rolled her eyes when told to keep wrapping presents

LOLZ! Finally Kate Middleton showed some personality, you guys! Apparently she was totally over some woman telling to her “keep wrapping” presents while on a visit to Northside Center in New York City earlier this week. It seems Kate was chatting to another volunteer when some woman in black came up to her and said, “Keep wrapping.” Kate then rolled her eyes as she went back to her present wrapping.

Duchess Kate three-peats Jenny Packam for St. Andrews Gala

Three thoughts on last night:
1) I had the exact same reaction to the third appearance of the ink blue Jenny Packham dress that I did to the end of the video game Fear: “Oh, f–k you!”
2) Finally someone shelled out the big bucks to get Duchess Kate some nice jewelry.
3) The new bling doesn’t make up for the repeated dress.

For the final event in fashion-conscious New York, at the super expensive, 450-person strong charity Gala for St. Andrews 600th anniversary (that they’ve been celebrating for at least 4 years now) that was supposed to be the highlight of the entire trip, Kate Middleton decided not to go all out with a new dress, and instead wore an ink blue Jenny Packham gown for the third effing time.

Duchess Kate wears bright pink to September 11 Memorial

I’ve started my last two or three posts with, “Sigh”, and well… Sigh. Because instead of wearing a bright color to a children’s center and black to a memorial site, Duchess Kate chose to wear black to a children’s center and bright pink to the September 11 Memorial. I feel like this is my fault; I asked for color and I got it (finally), but how odd that she decided on color for this event and not the others. Anyway, Kate Middleton and Prince William visited the September 11 Memorial where Kate laid flowers with a handwritten note from the couple. They then toured the museum. They didn’t get there until after 10 AM, which didn’t give them much time to tour Ground Zero and visit The Door before the afternoon GREAT receptions.

Prince William and Duchess Kate arrive in NYC

Will and Kate arrive at Carlyle Hotel 2
[Jason Calabretta Twitter]

The Cambridges are in New York, yo. Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived at the Carlyle Hotel at around 5:40 PM yesterday, December 7, and were cheery enough to stop for 3 seconds (literally) to pose for photographers before heading inside. Kate did a quick change before she and Will headed out to a private dinner on behalf of the American Friends of the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry [longest title ever].
