A critical blog about Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, and the rest of the British royal family
Let’s kick off a series of end of the year highlight posts with a recap of some big moments from the royals I’ve covered here in 2017.
On Thursday and Friday, there were a string of terror attacks in Spain, killing over a dozen people and injuring over 100. The Guardian has a good timeline of events here and here, if you’re interested. In what is sadly feeling more and more like routine as the world suffers more and more attacks this year, various royals sent out messages of condolence to King Felipe of Spain.
Following the big tiara-filled gala dinner on May 9, the royals came out for Day 2 of the 80th Birthday celebrations of King Harald and Queen Sonja, which was a government-hosted black tie dinner at the Opera House in Oslo. It was rainy and wet so the royals had to cover up with umbrellas and outerwear.
Last night, May 9, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway held a joint 80th birthday dinner at the Royal Palace in Oslo – their birthdays are February 21 (for Harald) and July 4 (for Sonja). A truck load of Norwegian and foreign royals attended including crowd favorites Crown Princess Victoria, Queen Maxima, and The Countess of Wessex.
Barring anything major happening, for the rest of the week and into 2017 I’m going to do year end reviews for 2016 – taking a look back at the major highlights both events and fashion, British royal engagement numbers, Kate’s fashion, etc. I’m kicking this year end review off with a look back at some of the royal event highlights of this past year.
I doubt this will get much attention at all since it’s Christmas and since my last few articles haven’t gotten much attention, but for those who don’t celebrate Christmas of for those who want something to look at during any downtime during Christmas celebrations, here’s a quick wrap up of various royals’ Christmas cards and photos, and various royals at Christmas-related events recently.
This royal round up features three separate tiara appearances (one that barely makes the count as royal, but whatevs) and two different York princesses. Queen Mathilde and Crown Princess Mette-Marit were out and about at State Banquets while Princess Beatrice was doing the charity thing and Princess Eugenie was attending a service at Westminster Abbey.
This royal round up features Camilla Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Charles at the 500th anniversary of the Royal Mail, Crown Princess Victoria at a seminar and supporting the Paralympics, Crown Princess Mary at the Flag Day parade, and Queen Sonja in a tiara for a State Visit.
Here’s another royal round up to cap off the week. There’s an update that I missed when Kate Middleton was in Cornwall, Queen Maxima continuing her trip to Indonesia, Crown Princess Mette-Marit out and about in Venice, new photos of The Gyalsey, and Queen Mathilde taking her kids to school.
This past week Sophie, Countess of Wessex was in Canada, Princess Stephanie of Luxembourg celebrated Luxembourg National Day, and Crown Princess Mette-Marit took part in the Royal Silver Jubilee Tour in Norway.
