Prince Philip stepping down from public duties

In the wee hours of the morning on May 4, there was word that there was a meeting called with the royal staff about a big announcement regarding the royals, and speculation went wild wondering what it was about. It turned out not to be as drastic as had been speculated, but it was very significant: Prince Philip has decided he will no longer carry out public engagements.

Prince William takes job as air ambulance pilot because he’s a tantrum-y baby trying to avoid royal work

Le Sigh. On Thursday, August 7, the Palace officially announced (although the press announced this months ago via “sources”) that Prince William will be taking a full time job as a pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. I didn’t cover it until now because, well, I was still processing. I’m not sure how I feel about this. Part of me wants to scream and yell, but part of me just wants to hang my head and stop following Will and Kate Middleton altogether. If they’re not going to give a sh-t about their royal duties, then why should I, you know? But I’ve noticed something weird with some people’s reaction to this news… they like his decision. What the what? Like, they’re seriously making excuses for his d-cking around. How is that even possible? This post is about Will’s new job and how dumb it is, but also about the excuses people are making for it, because they are in denial about the real reason he took this new job (hint: he’s a selfish brat).

Prince William: spoiled brat who wants a job in the Foreign Office as an excuse to put off full-time royal duties, or modern, independent royal?

There are two bits of William news I would like to discuss.  First, there is a Mirror article about his next career move (hint: it’s not full-time royal work).  Second, there is a Robert Jobson article about how William wants to modernize the Monarchy by doing things “his way”.

William reportedly wants a job in the Foreign Office to help prepare him for when he is king.  It would be a “full-time position” as he is keen to have a full-time job—as long as it has nothing to do with royal duties and allows for lots of vacation time.  A source said: “He will come to the end of his ‘transitional year’ in the autumn and has made it clear he wishes to begin full-time work again.”

Kate is still looking for a new, full-time nanny

I’ve been debating whether to comment on this latest article about Kate looking for a new nanny, because I thought we had already known that.  This is kind of a throwaway post, but the Kate news has been light after the flurry of stuff a few weeks ago, so why not?  Also, there are interesting bits in the article.

So, basics, I guess Kate and William are still looking for a new nanny for George now that Jessie Webb is leaving.  It’s been a month and a half since that news broke, but whatever.  They had planned to go it alone and not have a nanny at all ( 😉 ), but then they hired Jessie Webb on a part-time basis to help when they had royal duties (except that Jessie Webb was chilling with Kate while driving back to KP in Sept.).  Now Jessie Webb is leaving and their royal duties are ramping up (except not really), so they now want a full-time nanny.
