Swedish royals in tiaras: Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine

And we’re back with one of our favorite royal families doing what they do best: tiaras! Yesterday, February 11, the Swedish Royal Family stepped out for the first official dinner of the year at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. As per usual, guests included representatives from the diplomatic corps, parliament, government, government agencies, science, sport, business, and culture. There was a big royal turn out which included King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, Sofia Hellqvist, and Princess Madeleine (Chris sat this one out). Guests were received in the White Sea and dinner was served in Karl XI’s Gallery.

Duchess Kate wears light blue maternity coat for three appearances in Kensington

Huzzah, Kate isn’t in mourning! Kate Middleton put on her big girl panties and finally stepped out of her non-maternity mourning clothes for three engagements in Kensington today, January 19. Kate visited the charity Family Friends for a coffee morning (BTW I’m so used to typing “mourning” that I typed that first and had to correct myself), then she officially opened the Kensington Aldridge Academy, then hopped over to the Kensington Leisure Centre and officially opened that.

Danish Royal Family dons tiaras for New Year’s Banquet

The Danish Royal Family stepped out yesterday, January 1, for their first major event of the year, the New Year’s Banquet at Christian VII’s Palace. This is the second royal house to host a New Year’s event (go here for the Japanese). The New Year’s Banquet is a major event for the Danes where they host a number of government officials and other guests and show up in their most formal wear and jewels. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, all joined Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik for the event.

Japan’s Imperial Family celebrates New Year with tiaras

It’s a brand new year and two royal families celebrated with tiara events. This post is for the Japanese Imperial Family (go here for the Danish Royal Family post). Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan, accompanied by members of their family, hosted the annual New Year Greeting Ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo yesterday, January 1.

Duchess Kate accompanies Prince William to friend’s wedding, takes George to the park

Here are some Duchess Kate bits and bobs. Oddly enough, they’ve announced a new appearance for her. She’ll be attending a Beaver Scout meeting later today of the “newly established 23rd Poplar Beaver Scout Colony… in support of The Scout Association’s “Better Prepared” campaign to extend access to scouting.” Anyway, onto other topics…

More tiaras from the Swedish royals at the Nobel Laureates Dinner

More tiaras! Last night, December 11, King Carl XVI Gustaf held the annual dinner for the Nobel Laureates at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. All the royal ladies (and gents) were out to welcome the laureates to the palace. Because this is a white tie dinner, we get more gowns and more tiara photos. Yay! The gowns were different, obviously, but the only royal lady to switch up her tiara game was Queen Silvia. Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine stuck to their trusty fringe tiaras from the day before. Sofia Hellqvist still didn’t wear a tiara, but she did wear a hair brooch.

Silvia, Victoria, Madeleine, Sofia: Which Swedish Royal lady looked best at the Nobel Prize Ceremony?

Cue the mic drop, Crown Princess Victoria just schooled everyone in how to bring the fashion dramz. Victoria went all out stunning for the Nobel Prize Ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall and Nobel Banquet at Stockholm City Hall in a red, strapless ballgown accessorized with a fringe tiara. This is what I think of when I think of a Princess. That’s not to say that Queen Silvia, Princess Madeleine, and Sofia Hellqvist didn’t look fantastic, they did, but Victoria stole the show for me.

Duchess Kate three-peats Jenny Packam for St. Andrews Gala

Three thoughts on last night:
1) I had the exact same reaction to the third appearance of the ink blue Jenny Packham dress that I did to the end of the video game Fear: “Oh, f–k you!”
2) Finally someone shelled out the big bucks to get Duchess Kate some nice jewelry.
3) The new bling doesn’t make up for the repeated dress.

For the final event in fashion-conscious New York, at the super expensive, 450-person strong charity Gala for St. Andrews 600th anniversary (that they’ve been celebrating for at least 4 years now) that was supposed to be the highlight of the entire trip, Kate Middleton decided not to go all out with a new dress, and instead wore an ink blue Jenny Packham gown for the third effing time.

Back to Black: The Duchess Kate Story

William and Kate at GREAT Reception at NeueHouse

Duchess Kate was back in black for the GREAT Reception at NeueHouse with Prince William. She wore another Seraphine Maternity dress, the Vanessa. I mean, she looks nice, and it’s much better than her black lace dresses, but damn I am just so sick of Kate wearing black. Oh, and let’s not forget the $80,000 elephant in the room. Kate brought back her Cartier Trinity necklace she previously wore in 2012.
