Princess Madeleine brings Princess Leonore to fairy tale party (updated)

Do we need some tiaras and cuteness? I think we need some tiaras and cuteness. Princess Madeleine hosted a fairy tale party yesterday, February 22, in the Mirror Room of the Royal Palace. Madeleine brought Princess Leonore along for the event and they both dressed in their finest Princess-wear.

The event was organized by Min Stora Dag (My Special Day) which is a nonprofit that “makes dreams come true for Swedish children and youngsters with serious illnesses and diagnoses”. I guess it’s similar to the Make a Wish Foundation. Madeleine is Patron of the organization.

They invited 12 children ages 5-8 to come to the palace in their best “prince and princess” looks. Madeleine greeted the children (and their parents) to juice, cookies, and cake before watching a show by Swedish magician, Tobbe Trollkarl (Tobbe Blom).

Maddie wrote on her Facebook page: “Leonore and I had a wonderful afternoon with children from Min Stora Dag. We were all dressed up!”

Maddie repeated one of my favorite looks from her – this grey, embellished Fadi El Khoury gown paired with the Swedish Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara – which she previously wore to the 2015 Nobel Prize ceremony.

This time Maddie opted for the addition of a diamond brooch, as well as aquamarine and diamond chandalier earrings. She also wore her Order of the Seraphim and portrait of the King.

Leonore wore a cute pink dress and pink diamond bow from Livly. She is such a cutie.

      Totally agree!

Thank you KMR for. Such a joyous event and to Princess Maddie and Leonore for acknowledging, embracing their royal lives – grant and share a beautiful day in the lives of the sick and less fortunate. And to include and be an example to some that royal children can give back and share their privilege life with others even from a toddler age (not teaching to spend taxpayers funds useless, shopping) .

Gorgeous photos of mum & daughter. Love how easy going, accessible and relatable the Swedish royal family are. If only Kate & Wills took a leaf out of their book. Can’t wait for the birth of the new Swedish royal babies, not long now!!

I’m sure this is a dream come true for these children to be entertained by a real princess, wearing a beautiful gown & tiara. Madeline looks completely at ease & I’m sure this is an enjoyable royal engagement for her. To bring Leonore as well is such a bonus. So cute & adorable. I really need a break from the William & Kate stories. They’re getting more ridiculous. I wonder how their royal counterparts from the other European countries are reacting to these stories.

IDA I am with you 100%. Will and Kate make me cranky! I need a break from their shenanigans, but since Will is currently in the hot seat I have to watch.

Princess Madeleine looks her beautiful princess best. I love that her daughter is along to interact with the other children. I bet this was a very special day for the boys and girls and one they will never forget. Well done Maddie.

    Can’t get enough of Leonore.
Good of Maddie to dress up as herself for the children. She’s so relaxed with her image.
This is little and big princesses’ heaven.

Awww, such a sweet post!! I love that Maddie wore my favorite tiara, a beautiful gown and still got down on the floor with the children! She just has that natural grace! The only thing that would have made this party complete would be if the children attending were given toy tiaras or crowns to wear as well.

Oh my goodness, Lenore is such a little cutie pie!! I think she looks like a bit more like Chris then Maddie but I’m sure that will continue to change as she matures. I wonder if she is into the whole princess fantasy too?

You’re right Rhiannon. And I think Maddie brings light and brightness because she’s a natural warm and caring person, not to mention photogenic, like her sister. The two of them are the incarnation of princess’s spirit. They bring a little magic and fairy dust wherever they go.

This is such an incredibly sweet thing to organize! I think that most little girls would love to meet a real princess in full gear at a palace and get a chance to play princess for a day in regal surroundings. Factor in that many of these children won’t live long lives, and it is just such a very kind thing to do. I think this is one of the best ways to act as a patron for a hospice. Not just help raise awareness and funds but also help give the ill children and their parents very special experiences.

I love Madeline very much for doing this. It is a such kind thing to do and she was just to charming, natural and engaging with the children who you could see was loving every minute of this special day.

As a former Make-A-Wish kid, this makes my transplanted heart (and lungs!) smile so big. Maddie hit this one out of the ballpark and I think it’s fabulous that she went full-princess in terms of appearance AND brought Lenore to the occasion to both socialize with and see, at an early age, that some children aren’t so lucky to be born healthy (okay, so little Lenore is only 2 and probably won’t remember this but you get my drift).

It was great seeing Madeleine, literally, be hands on and get on the floor and interact with these children. Last, I loved how she greeted the parents and remember that this is their journey too. I wonder if the siblings of these sick children were included? Just thinking out loud. πŸ˜‰

I love that Maddie went “full-princess”. That’s what little kids expect when they think of a Princess, so it’s great that Maddie gave them that.

I think this event was just for the kids who are sick.

Can you even imagine going to something like this when you were a child? I would have been hysterical with excitement.

I’m in the early stages of planning my oldest girl’s birthday party. Needless to say, it must have a princess theme! Where can I rent a real life princess? Any ideas?

“Dear Princess Madeleine, I hope I am not out of line in asking, but …….”

This was an amazing treat for the children. KMR, it is so wonderful to have these lovely stories about the Swedish Royals on your blog. Sincere thanks.

Maddie is so beautiful. Not just physically — but, oh, is she — but spiritually, too. What a great party for young children. Here in the States, I do a lot of volunteer work for Make-A-Wish, and so I know what special things they do for ill children. I am sure the Swedish organization does, too. And, they have actual Royalty to call upon for help!

Maddie is so gorgeous and that gown and tiara? Just splendid. Little Leonore is a doll. I am glad her mother included her in the event.

Kimothy, I am in awe of you and wish you continued good health. You are so right about how nice to have the parents treated so kindly, too. Parents and siblings of ill children need love and support too.

I hope the children who attended this party will have good health and happiness always.

      Mary Elizabeth,

First of all, thank you for your kind words. They’re very much appreciated.

Second: holy schnikies! I’m *ahem* 36 but a princess party sounds awesome!! Though I’m still single (grrrr) I STILL hope and pray that I eventually find my real-life prince charming and have a family of my own and IF I’m blessed with a daughter, you can bet your sweet patootie that I’m going to give her a princess party!

On to your question: I *think* I’ve seen advertisements of young women who are pursing entertainment careers and whatnot and offer their services of being dressed up as said princess (Elsa/Anna, Ariel, Belle, etc.) for a fee. I’m sure you can find something online. Good luck!

Let us know how your princess search goes! My personal favorite Disney princesses? Belle and Mulan! πŸ˜€

        Hi, Kimothy:

Thanks for your reply and for the ideas about finding a princess to attend my little girl’s party. I am sure I can find someone here. Just wish it was Maddie. Oh, and Leonore, too.

The real thing is so much better, don’t ya think?

Gosh, I would love to have attended that event, too.

Don’t worry about finding your Prince Charming. Often, it’s when you least expect it! I wish you the best with that aspect of life and with everything else, too.

But you know what Kimothy you might end up with three boys like me! I so wanted a daughter and the pink bows and princess parties, but in the end wouldn’t change my gorgeous sons for all the princesses in Sweden. Kimothy, you have really touched me with your personal story in the past as well, so I just want to join Mary Elizabeth and wish you have your dreams come true while in good health. I think you having been a Make-A-Wish child is quite special and gave you strength and will. Also all Min Stora Dag children I consider them to be heroes of life.
But you know, since I’m older than you (almost a decade), let me give you a piece of advice, with my love. Good things come to those who have dreams and know how to pursue them. I know you have a dream, now you have to be bold enough to make it happen. I wish you all the good luck on that. πŸ™‚

          Mary Elizabeth, Birdy and Elina,
Thank you for your kind words. They’re so encouraging and much-needed right now (not guy-related, more health-related).

Believe me, I’ve been praying and waiting and listening to that “it’ll happen when you least expect it” expression. Also, notice that I said, “IF I’m blessed with a daughter…” πŸ˜‰

I have lots of dreams; one of them is to create a YouTube channel where I can vlog. Both a personal online blog and something for those within the transplant community (or not) wanting to learn about what it’s really like for an organ recipient. Just an idea that’s been floating in my head for a while. πŸ™‚

I do hope your health improves if you are currently struggling. I don’t know anyone who has had a transplant and have learned a lot from you sharing your experiences.

Good health and happiness and success in your new venture. We’ll all be following you .

Yes please, keep us all up to date with how your journey is going. And good luck with that vlog too.
As I’ve said before, I do like how you’re taking the positives from your life and doing things with them.
As I said, I’ve got a friend who had a lung transplant last year. I was aware that she’d be taking drugs for the rest of her life but never thought about the day to day things like having to keep your environment as antibacterial as possible etc.
BTW, thank you for your help with my prednisone belly. Following your lead I’m calling it my Buddha Belly too. Now, just to test the name I gave it a wee rub (rubbing a Buddha’s belly is lucky right?) then went and bought an Instant Kiwi (scratchy ticket) and won $3. So I’m thinking… If I rub really hard (not in public of course) would I win more?
So thanks for making me feel more kindly about I part of my body that I disliked! πŸ™‚

Your YouTube idea sounds interesting. Since I’m not a transplant recipient and don’t know anyone who is, what types of things would you talk about? You should definitely do that. You don’t even need a fancy set up at first; you can shoot videos on a smartphone or computer webcam. Pro tip: With any blog or vlog, consistency is key. If you can, make videos in advance and set them to post on certain days.

Birdy~Thank you! Right now, it’s my feet that are bothering me. I’ve seen my dermatologist twice, PCP once and endocrinologist/diabetes once. Today, I go to the vascular center and HOPEFULLY we can start figuring out as to why my feet are causing me such pain and creating sores (sort of) on the sides of my feet.

@Cathy~ Awwwww that’s awesome and you’re welcome!! πŸ˜€ Right now, after slacking off for months, I’m finally trying to get back ON the wagon and eat better.

@KMR~thanks for the advice/tip! There are some YouTube channels I LOVE to watch and yes, some of them do have that pattern of creating videos and uploading them at a certain time/date whatever. Some vloggers are daily and others are like 2-3 times a week or whatever. I just love learning about Japan (“Texan in Tokyo” and “Rachel & Jun” are my favorite vlog channels regarding that country) and how others live (“Bubzvlogz”…..she started out with a beauty channel (“Bubzbeauty” and it created a separate one for her personal life and LOVE it!)

To answer your question, I think I’d do a mix; showcase the day to day life of a recipient (various errands and whatnot associated) and a persona vlog so that either those on the waiting list or immediately post transplant can get some insight as to what their life will be like.

The news does interviews with recipients and whatnot and that’s great (it gets the word out for critical donors) BUT…..what happens after the interview, ya know? Sometimes the recipient’s life is easy, other times it’s not but the public assumes everything is fine because of what they see on said interview, not knowing about the day in/day out lifestyle. I’d want to educate and go “Look! This is what it’s really like for an organ recipient! Sometimes we’re okay, other times we’re not and yes, we do gripe and complain like everyone else!”

I’d also be more willing to answer people’s questions or offer my opinion whenever a controversial topic within the transplant community comes up in the news.

I hope that all makes sense. πŸ™‚

That sounds like a great idea, Kimothy. It’s a great way to explain to people just how much organ donations are needed and how they impact the organ recipients life. And it’s a great way to showcase the life of an organ recipient to show that even though there are challenges, life does go on. I’m sure that would be a great help to people who have recently had organ transplants.

I don’t know if you cook or what kind of dietary needs a transplant patient needs, but you might want to have a food/recipe series as well on your channel which focuses on creating great tasting meals that meet the dietary requirements of transplant patients.

Honestly, I really think you should create this channel. When ( πŸ˜‰ ) you do, let me know and I’ll check it out.

Thanks KMR (and everyone else) for your encouraging words. I’ve been trying to think of a name for my channel but I’m (pardon the pun πŸ˜‰ ) royally coming up blank! Any suggestions?

Also, there are different dietary restrictions based on your transplant. Example: as a lung recipient I’m not allowed to drink grapefruit juice or eat pomegranates (which is fine by me!) or eat raw fish (no sushi for me!) or supposedly eat at buffets, especially during the first year (I do eat at them but I check it out to make sure the food is clean first plus, I don’t recall being forewarned about them). These rules are different based on your transplant center but the first two examples I mentioned is part of “lung transplant 101” for EVERYONE.

All in all, just use common sense, don’t freak out and live and enjoy your life.

I’m not a very good cook but I get our drift about little things that I can showcase that I make (I make an awesome chef salad haha!).

            Hi, Kimothy:

I wish you a positive and helpful visit with the doctor. I hope your issues are met with the best medical results. You have been through so much in your life and I imagine you are stronger than most people are when it comes to dealing with setbacks and problems.

The vblog is a wonderful idea. So needed and would be a boost to many people. I hope you pursue it and that good things happen to you and others who view it. When you have an important message to get out and find a unique way of doing so, you win!

As for meeting a man of your dreams, I also subscribe to the theory that it will happen when you least expect it. Just always be open to receiving such a gift, for sometimes you don’t recognize it immediately and you don’t want the guy to disappear for good.

I was going through a really tough time when I met my husband. I was enroute to L.A. for business and the last thing I was thinking about was meeting someone. I’d just barely started to recover from a horrible break up with the guy I thought was my soulmate (Oh, how I now hate that word). I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt and my sister stopped by to wish me a good business trip and took one look at me and said, “Hey, you can wear something nicer than that on the plane. I’m sure you are going to see a lot of businessmen. Dress up a bit.”

I thought she was crazy, but she kept on me, so I changed.
While sitting in the boarding area, I noticed this nice looking guy eyeing me. I thought he was good-looking, but a tad too old for me. (Turned out he’s ten years older). Well, when we boarded, I lost sight of him, but during the flight, he made it a point to search me out by walking up the aisles.

As luck would have it the seat next to me was empty and he sat down (after asking nicely). We talked for the entire flight and asked me out to dinner that night.

Truly, I was just thinking about business and the hassles our company was going through and there he was. The man who would eventually become my husband.

So, never lose faith. And, be nice to every guy who talks to you. You can blow them off later when/if you find out they are jerks.

            Take good care of yourself!

            Hi, again, Kimothy,

When KMR asked what types of questions you would ask on your vlog, I cannot help but wonder if this is appropriate to bring up.
I met a wonderful woman in a grief support group several years ago. She donated her son’s organs after his passing. When she met a few of the people who were recipients, she said she was amazed that they asked her if he liked certain things, foods, etc. Turned out they had never liked any of those things (and her son did) prior to receiving his organs. I have also read that often people who receive an organ or organs, often find that they suddenly have an interest in the subjects their recipients were interested in during their lives
            I find that so intriguing.

First of all, that’s a sweet story about you and your hubby! Good thing your sister nagged you to change your clothes haha! I DO try to be nice to every guy I meet unless I get a bad vibe. πŸ˜‰

Your question/comment/observation regarding traits isn’t weird. Many within the transplant community have debated this topic. Some of said, “oh it’s just a heart/lung/kidney/pancreas/etc” others have said, “cellular memory” and quite a few of my transplant friends have sworn up and down that they received traits from their donors. One friend, who hated coffee pre-transplant can’t look anyone in the eye until she’s had a cup of Joe. I know this to be true of her because I woke up in a good mood once while at the transplant games and she glared at me! It wasn’t until AFTER she had her coffee that she was back to her perky self LOL!

Hey, if you have a boy you can do a princess party! πŸ˜‰ My son is obsessed with Disney princesses. He flirts with them at Disneyland. He is best friends with Merida… They even have a secret handshake. LOL The’re going to get married, apparently. It’s between her, Ariel, and Rey from Star Wars Ep VII.

Oh Ellie I am envious. We had football parties, cricket parties anything really that involved tiring out lots of boys so they didn’t trash my house too much! Now they want a big meal cooking ( curry usually) a large bottle of vodka and lifts into town so they can all go out clubbing. In the UK alcohol is legal from 18.

I love Belle! She’s my favorite Disney Princess, too. Ahem, Mulan is technically not a Princess since she wasn’t born a princess and didn’t marry one in the movie. *Pushed up glasses* I love Mulan, too. She has such a great character arc.

I love Mulan because she starts out insecure and doesn’t have a ton of skills and doesn’t fit in, and through the pursuit of her goal (saving her father) she becomes a confident person with skills and abilities who has a place in life. As someone who has suffered from social anxiety and insecurity, Mulan is very inspirational.

Agreed and the real story is just as inspiring and amazing! Disney got MOST of it right but (of course) did some tweaking.

It is a generational thing. Years from now people will complain that Frozen is not recognized. But all movies made by Disney will be remembered by some people.

Visiting these other Royals via the Blog post and comments are such a breath of fresh untainted air.

What a beautiful gesture on Princess Madeleine’s part and to include her very young daughter. She is as so you all have indicated beautiful, graceful, photogenic and classy. All so sweet.

How caring and warm Madeleine is towards this cause and the boys and girls look very happy in their outfits and being entertained. I hope that all the children go on to have good health. It was good of Madeleine to bring Leonore with her. Leonore looks very cute and mixing with the other children is a plus and getting involved with her mum. I thought the tiara on Madeline looked lovely.

ps Are my nieces the exception. They went to a Frozen themed party and were miserable and my eldest niece wasn’t keen on the party dress made for her birthday whilst everyone else were pretty day dresses. They do dress up though as princesses. Nothing wrong with that. I just hope they realise that real people have flaws both themselves and boys. As Tanya said I don’t want them following in Kate’s footsteps. More Victoria and Madeleine.

          THANK YOU!

I just don’t get the hype. The music is good and the landscapes are gorgeous, but the whole movie gets a “meh” from me. No character development, huge holes in the plot, nothing really makes sense. Plus, the characters all look like they have botox – the animation for their faces is awful.

Great description of the problems with that movie. But I don’t even think the music is that great. I mean, it’s no The Lion King. I’ve loved that soundtrack since I was 4. I still listen to those songs because they are so good.

Oh I need granddaughters ( not yet lads) so I can watch all these movies! I see the Frozen hype every time I go into a supermarket with Frozen birthday cakes, but although I have it available on Sky I abandon after 5 minutes. When my boys were young it was Toy Story and at bed time I would have three little Buzz Lightyears running around in their themed pyjamas.

I finally got to watch Frozen last month KMR. It was a good film but I don’t get the hype either. Belle, Snow White and Ariel are my favourites. I have never seen Mulan. Though I like Ella enchanted as well. However it is how fairy tales translate into real life. Fantasy is fine as long as they know its not real and they are just stories.

I have just burst out laughing. Thank you Birdy. Maybe Kate thought it would just be sitting around a palace all day. I think the children must have thought they were very lucky that they were actually a prince or princess for a day in a real palace where the actual princess was working.

I watched Frozen at some point last year and thought it was a cute movie, but still don’t get the undying devotion some people have to it. Working in retail, I am over the Frozen merchandise and after seeing “Let It Go” being sung in every language imaginable on the DVD after the film, if I never hear that song again it will be too soon.

I think Frozen is successful because people didn’t think it would be successful. Tangled was marketed to celebrate that it was the 50th of Disney animation. Frozen was marketed as whatever comes after Tangled. People were just so surprised by how successful it could be.

I’m going to add in my comment that I love all Disney movies equally and don’t feel the need to tear down any movie just to say which ones are better.

Maddie is awesome! This was such an amazing thing to do for those little girls!!! A *real* palace, the guards, the magician, little Princess Leonore and Maddie in that lovely gown with her gorgeous tiara and jewels. I am enamored with those earrings!

Glad Maddie and her team for came up with this.

Thank you KMR for blogging about this event. It a beautiful thing to do and would have made the children’s day.
I do like Maddie and think, like Sophie, she has a great way with children. It’s extra special that Maddie took Leonore with her, like Victoria Maddie is introducing her daughter to life as a royal and the expectations in a gentle and beautiful way.
I love that Maddie got down on the floor even though she is in a full length gown and tiara!
I hope the caregivers enjoyed their day at the palace as well.

Madeline going down at floor level showed the children she was one of them. Victoria does it as well. I do it with my nieces. It reminded me of Anna in the King and I when Anna went down on the floor in her voluminous dress.
