The full birth announcement from the King’s Facebook page (I added a few brackets to clarify some things):

Our happiness knows no bounds, as we announce the Royal Birth of His Royal Highness The Gyalsey [Dragon Child] on 5th February 2016.
Our Prince, the first Royal Child of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema, was delivered safely at the Lingkana Palace, Thimphu. His Majesty was at Her Majesty’s side during the time of the delivery. Following the Royal Birth, His Royal Highness was first presented to His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo [Fourth Dragon King/the King’s father].
Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen [Dragon Queen] and His Royal Highness are both in perfect health.
All sacred Bhutanese traditions were observed for the auspicious occasion, with His Holiness the Je Khenpo presiding over the religious ceremonies.
Their Majesties and members of the Royal family are filled with profound joy on the birth of His Royal Highness.
Their Majesties expressed appreciation to the Bhutanese medical team for their service.
Their Majesties also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Zhung Dratshang, Rabdeys, and other religious organizations who performed prayer ceremonies in all the Dzongs and Lhakhangs across the country for the wellbeing of His Royal Highness, Their Majesties, and the people of Bhutan.
We join the people of Bhutan in our heartfelt prayers for the wellbeing of Her Majesty and His Royal Highness, and in the expression of our joy on this momentous occasion.

They have not released the name or a photo as of time of posting. When they do I will update.

Congratulations to the royal couple!

  1. Congratulations to these two and to the country of Bhutan! The King & Queen are such a loving couple and their Facebook announcement is so overjoyed and euphoric, I’m really happy for them. l surely hope they release a photo of the baby sometime soon.
The baby came a little sooner than I had the impression, which will give some more time for the mother to spend with her newborn before the Cambridges’ visit (is it supposed to be in April?). Let’s hope we’ll get some nice pictures of them all during W&K’s visit!
Thank you KMR for letting us know, I really like these two and their country.
It’s so exciting, the royal babies of this year have started coming!

  2. Congratulations to them! Hope we get to see a picture of the newborn! Well I guess that it’s better that the baby was born a bit early. That way they have a bit of time to get used to having a baby in the house before W&K’s visit.

  3. Congratulations to King Jigme and Queen Jetsun. What lovely news to wake up too. I hope we get to see a photo of the newborn. Is it strange that I am more excited about this than I was for Prince George. Oh well. Thank you KMR.

  4. That is so great! Congratulations to Jigme and Jetsun and the people of Bhutan! I hope they share photos soon. Good for him to be involved in the birth.

  5. YAY!!! Congrats to them. They really are a beautiful couple.

Looks like the next royal baby will be Victoria and Daniel’s! Can’t wait!! 😀

  6. What a lovely birth announcement. This baby is welcomed with love from his parents and his country. I love the way that Jigme is so quietly affectionate with his wife. I have no doubt that he will treat his son the same.

    1. ‘i agree Rhiannon. What a lovely example the new prince has in both parents. I think that this couple are generally peaceful.

  7. They might not name him quickly because in Bhutan names are to be auspicious. Sometimes they will ask a Buddhist priest. Bhutanese names are gender-neutral (they might have gender indication but both genders can use them depending on the combination). This could result in several people with the same common name (many people have the same name such as Dorji and Sangay)

  8. Congratulations and many blessings to the new family!!! I just love their birth announcement, the joy they feel literally leaps off the page! I can’t wait to see a picture of the new Dragon Child with his loving parents!

  9. Happy news, indeed. I love the joy expressed in the birth announcement. No doubt, this will be a beloved child. Congratulations to the Royal Couple, their loved ones and all the people of Bhutan. Seems like many new Royal babies are ready to enter this world. Wishing all of them and their parents, happy, healthy lives.

Thank you, KMR. You always keep us abreast of the news!

  10. This is wonderful news for the royal couple and the people of Bhutan. This little guy must be adorable. Does anyone know if he was early?

  11. I know nothing about Bhutan. I do find it amazing that there is a strong religious community country wide, and it’s lovely to learn more over all.

Does anyone think this gorgeous couple is intensely trying to raise the profile of their country? Because it’s working on me. 🙂

  12. This silent couple speaks volumes and evokes a positive response due to their truthful faces. Cambridges use their voices and exaggerated mimics and nobody is getting from it a true message. I wish the Bhutan’s king Jigme and queen Jetsun even lots of happiness due to the birth of their child.

    1. Agreed Ali. The cambridges are really a pain, and the other Royal couples only show how they are ridiculous; Congratulatios to the King and Queen for their son. Queen Jetsun is really gorgeous.

      1. Seriously! I wanna know what Jetsun’s beauty secret is to make her skin stay so soft and smooth! Whatever she’s using, I’d buy that in a minute! 🙂

        1. Clean mountain air , a good diet and a happy life? She seems to love her husband and her job and now of course her son.

    2. Ali
To a point this argument is fair. Just not here imo.
The BRF cannot fairly be compared regarding how vocal their press is. And how frequent. That KP spouts more lies than truth, sure. It’s valid. This couple and their reign has far less exposure. So, as this is all we see it’s easy to like them.

Like many enjoy the BRF and Cambridges because they only know of the positive pr. Nothing deeper.

      1. I agree. It’s easy to like a person or people when all you know is the good stuff.

  13. Bhutan intrigues me ever since viewing the beautiful photos of this country and reading that they promote happiness. Congratulations to the King and Queen on the birth of their Prince.

  14. Someone commenting on Order of Splendor made a meme of Jetsun Pema with that says “Mother of Dragons”. I just find that funny and strange.

  15. In their updated Facebook post yesterday, they announced that all children born on that day were given soelra (which means money from the king not the currency of Bhutan which is ngultrum).

  16. Such a beautiful couple. A beautiful baby, too, I am sure.
Congratulations to them and may life continue to be joyful and healthy for all.
There is something very special about them. They radiate goodness, that’s for sure.

  17. Gorgeous people. Georgeous country. Gorgeous religion based values.

I’m forever giving this couple a mild side eye over when they met age 17 and 7 and he said he’d marry her.
The retelling of this sounds more harmless and extremely cute than what was said to be original circumstances.

If a member of the BRF did this people would lose their minds imo.
Although, this couple seems very much in love and sweet. As well as kind to their people so that’s why I say “mild”.
Wish them the best, but I doubt they need it.

    1. Totally agree with you. That story isn’t cute or harmless, it’s predatory and gross. But they seem to be in love now, so.

  18. They are adorable! Congratulations! I barely here about Bhutan! Where can I find more about Royals from around the world? I want to learn about all of them.

  19. There is a picture on their Facebook page!! It’s sooooo sweet!! I can’t link it because I’m at work but I promise, it’s so touching.

Also, still no name for the little guy.
