Ahead of a gala dinner tonight in Norway to celebrate Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s 18 birthday, the Royal Court released three new portraits of Ingrid wearing her great-great-grandmother’s tiara, which was a gift for her 18th birthday.
Ingrid is wearing Princess Ingeborg’s Diamond and Pearl Tiara, which was given to Princess Ingeborg of Sweden by her husband, Prince Carl of Sweden, over 120 years ago. Princess Ingeborg was King Harald’s grandmother. Prince Carl purchased this tiara for his wife at the Paris Exposition in 1900 from Boucheron because this was lighter to wear than other tiaras Princess Ingeborg had. This tiara was also worn by Crown Princess Märtha, King Harald’s mother.
After Princess Ingeborg died, the tiara was inherited by Princess Ragnhild, King Harald’s sister, who died in 2012. Ragnhild’s children gave the tiara to Princess Ingrid as a gift for her 18th birthday.
Princess Astrid, another sister of King Harald, said of the tiara and the gift to Princess Ingrid:
“It means a great deal to me that the tiara has now been given to Princess Ingrid Alexandra. […] It is a beautiful tiara made of interlocking diamond circles set in platinum. The button-style diamond and pearl elements are later additions. Grandfather purchased the tiara for Grandmother when they were attending the Paris Exposition in 1900. […] Grandfather bought this for my grandmother because it was lighter to wear on important occasions. […] Princess Ragnhild wanted Ingrid Alexandra to have Grandmother’s tiara. […] Grandmother used the tiara often throughout her life. The last time she wore it was at my brother ‘s celebration of his 21st birthday in 1958.”

Ingrid Alexandra is also wearing the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Olav (sash and star, received on her 18th birthday in January 2022), Kind Harald’s Family Order (the portrait brooch, received on her 18th birthday in January 2022), and the miniatures of the Order of St. Olav, the Royal House of Norway Centenary Medal (received in 2005), and King Harald’s Jubilee Medal 1991-2016 (received in 2016).
The photos were taken in the Upper Vestibule at the Royal Palace in Norway.
Not going to lie, this isn’t my favorite tiara. It looks a bit cheap from far away because of how open the circles are. But I think this is a great first tiara for an 18 year old since it’s reportedly so light and easy to wear.
