The Duchess of Cambridge has acquired a new patronage, becoming Royal Patron of Family Action today, December 4. To mark her new patronage, Kate visited a Christmas tree farm with children supported by the charity.
Kate takes on Family Action from The Queen, who held this patronage since 1953 when she took over from Queen Mary. Kate previously visited Family Action back in January of this year when she helped launch the FamilyLine support service.
Family Action was founded in 1869 to help disadvantaged families tackle difficulty and to move forward by giving them practical help and support. Today, Family Action works with over 45,000 families through over 140 community-based services to tackle issues facing families, including financial hardship, mental health and emotional wellbeing, social isolation, parenting challenges, domestic abuse, and substance misuse.
In the farm’s Elves’ Enchanted Forest, Kate joined in the activities including making decorations, making reindeer food, and writing letters to Santa. They also did some tree scouting.
Kate also spoke with parents, where she touched on the “pressures” of social media on families during the holidays, saying: “Maybe instead of posting on social media about who has the bigger presents, tell people about the real meaning of Christmas instead.”
I really wish I knew the context surrounding that quote, because on its own it sounds like such an eyeroll-y thing to say. Not going to lie, while I do think social media has its downsides, I’m a bit sick of hearing from people who don’t even use social media (or claim not to) about how bad social media is for people.

In this video you can hear Kate talking about how George loves thistles, saying: “George loves thistles, too, the spiky ones.” She also mentioned Louis, telling one little boy: “You remind me of my little Louis, he keeps saying: ‘Me, me, me and he wants to come everywhere with me.'”

Kate went quite festive in red and green for the event. She chose her Perfect Moment “Mini Duvet” jacket in red ($450), which she wore a couple times in 2017, and a new Really Wild “Long Crew Neck Jumper” in emerald. She wore some silver hoops as well.
