Today, July 14, is Crown Princess Victoria‘s 43rd birthday. Every year, Victoria and the Swedish Royal Family celebrate her birthday with a walkabout and a concert, but this year is a bit different.

Victoria released a video message for her birthday. It’s in Swedish with Swedish subtitles, but Right Royal Roundup has an English translation:
Today is usually a special day here in the castle park on Solliden, when extra people choose to come and visit. It’s always fun to get out in the park with my family, and greet all the children and adults who came here to celebrate with us. And in the evening, we are usually thousands of islanders and visitors who together pay tribute to this year’s Victoria winner.
This year, unfortunately, the situation looks different. We get to find new ways to celebrate holidays and summer traditions, and to hang out with relatives and friends. And that part of the thing, we simply have to wait until the pandemic is over.
Recently, Daniel and I have had the opportunity to talk to a number of health care employees in different parts of the country. They have told about what they have seen and experienced this spring and summer. These conversations have made a strong impression on me and us. So, if I could wish for one thing on my birthday, it is this: that together, we do everything we can to continue ‘hold on, hold out and keep our distance’.
There will be more summers. And there will be, hopefully, more birthdays. With that, perhaps never more important opportunity than now will show each other care and consideration.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the nice birthday greetings I have received. And to wish everyone in Sweden a continued nice summer! Thanks.

“There will be more summers” – Well, fingers crossed.
In the evening, Victoria, Daniel, and Estelle were joined by Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia at Borgholm’s castle ruins where a concert was held. Only a small number of attendees were permitted.
Victoria wore a new dress from a favorite designer: the Iris dress in white from By Malina (originally 4 499 SEK/$495.56 at today’s exchange rate). Not going to lie, this dress looks like an old woman’s nightgown to me. 😬
For the evening concert, Sofia (in the second photo in the slideshow above) wore a new dress from Andiata – the Sinne dress (€399,00/$455.70 at today’s exchange rate).
