Kate is due with Baby Cambridge 3 in April 2018 + Polls

Hey, we have a due month! Yesterday, Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton is due with her third child in April 2018.

William, Kate make pretzels in Heidelberg s

In a short press release, KP said: “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in April 2018.”

KP also announced yesterday two foreign trips for Prince William and Kate. Back at the end of August, when KP told us the royal trio were going to undertake a busy autumn program – which William and Harry have actually been living up to, so good for them – KP said that William and Kate would be taking an official visit in November. Well, due to Kate’s pregnancy, the November trip had to be rearranged. William will be going solo to Finland on November 29-30, and William and Kate will visit Norway and Sweden together in early 2018. The trips are at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. No other details have been released.

A blog reader, HCD, sent me some information about Kate’s previous pregnancies, pointing out patterns to try to guess when Baby #3 will be born.

    Pregnancy Announced:

    • George – December 3, 2012
    • Charlotte – September 8, 2014
    • Baby Cambridge 3 – September 4, 2017

    Due Month Announced:

    • George – January 14, 2013
    • Charlotte – October 20, 2014
    • Baby Cambridge 3 – October 17, 2017

    Baby Born:

    • George – July 22, 2013
    • Charlotte – May 2, 2015

Weeks Between Pregnancy Announcement and Due Month Announcement:

    • George – 6 weeks
    • Charlotte – 6 weeks
    • Baby Cambridge 3 – 6 weeks 1 day

Weeks Between Pregnancy Announcement and Birth:

    • George – 33 weeks
    • Charlotte – 33 weeks 5 days

Weeks Between Due Month Announcement and Birth:

    • George – 27 weeks
    • Charlotte – 27 weeks 5 days

So if Baby Cambridge 3 follows the same pattern, I would predict the new baby to be born between April 24-29, 2018.

HCD also provided some information on when Kate took maternity leave during her last two pregnancies.

    Last Engagement Before Birth:

    • George – June 15, 2013
    • Charlotte – March 27, 2015

Weeks Between Last Engagement and Birth:

    • George – 5 weeks 2 days
    • Charlotte – 5 weeks 1 day

So if Kate follows the same pattern, we can expect her last engagement before taking maternity leave to be the last week in March 2018.

With that information in mind, let’s do polls! I love polls! I’m doing the polls differently this time, using Google Forms instead of embeds. You will find the polls at the link below.

  1. So she became pregnant very shortly after the KP announcement that they’d be stepping up more??

And KMR – thanks for this post and the really interesting information – they are incredibly and amazingly predictable, wow.

    1. Kate was already pregnant when KP released their August 29 press release that the trio would work more this fall. KP announced the pregnancy less than a week later on September 4.

      1. Well just as well you’re putting together this stuff not me because clearly I am a fail at arithmetic!!
Do you think she knew this announcement was going to be made, and kept quiet? So weird.

        1. +1

          Stepping up? Yeah right

Makes the people making the working more announcement look like fools

My question is, did William know Kate was pregnant at that stage?

          1. I wonder that too Cathy, did William know Kate was pregnant? But one thing is for sure, according to this new KP statement Kate is having ONE baby: “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in April 2018.”, so bye bye twins theories.

      2. Yup.

Kate was sure gonna step up her work load, alright. lol

Honestly, didn’t some of us suggest she would get pregnant to avoid more work? No doubt she wants more babies but it’s very convenient indeed.

I’m darn sure they knew about baby 3 when KP published how all three of them were going to actually work and do their jobs.

        1. I don’t know for sure, obviously, but I think they knew. Which is why I was so annoyed when the pregnancy announcement came with an engagement cancellation, because they must have known she was pregnant and would cancel, so why bother announcing it?

          1. Yeah. That’s what annoyed me too. Let’s announce we’ll work, though we know Kate won’t because we know we’ll be announcing she’s pregnant the week she’s supposed to start doing the job she married into six years ago… Sigh.

          2. Does this line up with the new PR person? I can’t remember her name, but I do remember reading that she would make them work more to improve their image.

          3. Yes, I agree. What a crock. Remembering how happy and engaged Kate looked at a few recent engagements I now think she was that way because she knew her work load was going to be drastically diminished.

            Love the poll.

        2. Plenty of people here said she would have another kid around the time Prince Phillip officially retired and she would be expected to step up.

    2. My best guess (assuming they announced the pregnancy at 6 weeks and the due month at 12 weeks) is that her last menstrual period started right after they returned from Germany/Poland. Conception occurs approximately two weeks after the last period. The more work announcement came on August 29 when I guess she was around 5 weeks pregnant. If they were actively trying and keeping an eye on her cycles then they made have already know.

Sorry for the repeat info KMR posted as I was typing.

      1. So really, if she had HG she would’ve been suffering for longer than they let on … I just don’t understand. These people defy logic, perhaps.

      2. Yes, it must have been really short after the Germany trip that she got pregnant.
I wonder if they have to ask Kensington Palace or someone if it’s ok to become parents again in April or if they are free in their choice like everyone else?It would be disturbing, of course. But I wouldn’t really be surprised.

    3. To be mildly fair, it does seem like William and Harry have stepped it up. That release was about all of them, not just Kate, and as a casual observer it certainly feels like the boys have been far more active than usual since that announcement was made.

  2. I saw a clip of the “Breaking News” BBC announcement – the journalist was unimpressed and alluded to the fact that it was well known that No 3 was on its way. Apparently he will be requesting vacation time for the “due date” – and I’m guessing that is not to hover outside the hospital but rather to avoid the circus . . . . .

  3. Will people be excited for this royal birth? Why can’t we all accept the fact that Kate does not have worth ethic and doesn’t like to do humanitarian work?

  4. Maybe someone can check with the timing, but is it possible that the fight they had in Germany had something to do with the pregnancy? I am wildly speculating of course, but maybe William had said something about her being pregnant and she got annoyed. He never seemed into having three kids and he is known to say dumb things.

    1. If we say she was 6 weeks when they announced on September 4, then she wasn’t pregnant yet in Germany.

    2. what fight?

I do remember her commenting, “We need to have more babies!” with that grin that made me think, “Huh, I didn’t think they’ll have another but now I bet they will.”

      1. It was one of the big events. They were clearly pissed with each other. The following day was so over the top-we’re in love, I think one of the newspapers ran the “look of love” headline I think the day after. It was the hideous pointy boob dress outing

        1. Could you please provide a link or two? I tried searching on KMR and all I found were pics of her wearing that off-the-shoulders red gown. Is that the event/dress you’re referring to? Thanks!

          1. Haha even the mirror said she was furious. It must suck having peeps go all in about when you conceived but the title does make me laugh. Hope this helps kimothy. There was a video somewhere, that shows them leaving that shows it to. I’ll see if I can find it.
Here’s one printed at the time don’t know if they’re the same pics

          2. I seem to remember her in a white dress and she looked furious at William as they were about to leave an evening function. Was it the white bespoke dress she wore in Poland that was designed by someone from that country?

          3. Oh yeah! Now I remember! Thank you, Sarah! The pics helped jog my memory. Still think the top part of the dress reminds me of Madonna’s Vogue days. 😉

          4. Thanks for the links Sarah. It is always a bit shocking to see Kate without photoshop. She is definitely much prettier when smiling.

          5. I posted about the white dress before seeing the photo in the link that was placed here. So, yes, I did remember correctly which made me feel better as I am lately forever misplacing my car keys and it’s becoming more than problematic!

  5. I would really like to see W and K come out and say that they want K to focus on their family while the children are young. Let’s be honest, her main “royal duties” are to produce heirs, and create a stable home/emotional life for the future King. She’s doing that. It’s clear now that she is not an adept public performer, not charismatic at all, and not really interested in it. Why insist that she become a “full time working royal”? If Charles wants to pare down the excessive royal patronages and engagements, start with Kate! As for the publicly subsidized royal lifestyle, historically royal consorts are entitled to it just for breeding, as I’m sure K knows. Hate to say it, but there it is.

I can see that William and Harry do SO MUCH better on solo engagements. Harry has Diana’s charm in spades- he’s a superstar. William seems to have more gravitas as well without Kate.

    Just a thought.

    1. This! It might not be the modern approach we wish she would take but if she wants to be the royal equivalent of a SAHM than just do it. She is in the lucky position that they can afford it no doubt. She could still dress up and accompany him whenever she wishes.

    2. Because they’re provided with their lavish lifestyle and multiple nannies (I’m one who doesn’t believe they are nearly as engaged as parents as they say they are, not with her mum around a lot and the two or more nannies they have!) and so on so they can work? That’s the issue. She married into a family where it is expected in exchange for living so luxuriously, they work. She’s lucky it’s not a real job, girlfriend wouldn’t last in one at all.

They like to say how working parents are bad parents, so they have to be good parents to stay home. Then don’t have nannies, housekeepers, chefs, and do it like we plebs do it.

With Kate’s, uh, practically non-existent work history before marriage just waiting around for a man to marry her, I never expect much from her but she married into a job, not just wealth…

      1. A good thought, Amy.
I think, too, that it is forced to Kate and that she rather would stay at home.Well, it would be possible. Not everyone likes to do the same things. And if she chooses to raise her children by herself, that’s great. The most inhuman thing today for mothers is to be forced to work and not to be able to see their children. It’s an society-unfriendly concept in which people work today. And I hate it if working women make housewives feel miserable.

        1. To be fair Lovely Blossom even the Queen has never really worked full time in the normal sense of the word.

I think she works exceptionally hard nowadays given her age, but in her 30’s and 40’s I doubt she was working 40 hour weeks, 48 weeks of the year, and of course she didn’t have the usual other household duties to undertake.

IMO, as someone who was a SAHM, Kate could easily do 3-4 things a week planned around the family, and still spend as much time with her kids as most SAHM’s who have all the usual chores to do.

They have at least a month off in the summer, and another month around Christmas, so a full time royal really isn’t full time.

I really don’t want her on page 3 of the DM (not the front page, interestingly) just because she is wearing another new dress. I want her on the front page occasionally because she has really made a difference somewhere – visiting Grenfell regularly would be a start, getting involved in one of the projects designed to help those people who suffered so much – we need to keep them at the forefront of our attention, and if she visited and got involved via her charities on a regular basis those people who are still homeless would not be forgotten so easily because the next newsbite has appeared.

          Sorry – ranting!

          1. I agree Birdy. How hard would it be to do several engagements a week? It’s not like they go on all day. Kate could easily do two a day. It’s not like she has to get dinner on the table. George is in school. Charlotte will most likely be starting nursery school soon. Now she is having baby #3. Which in a way surprising to me. I thought Will would win this one. As well I thought Charles vision was to slim down of the monarchy? Now his heir will have three children of his own. I guess that could be a conversation for another time.

I also just want to get pulse on the British bloggers here. How do you feel about the latest addition to the Cambridge family? From what I’ve been reading and hearing people do not seem to keen on the idea of Kate being pregnant again.

          2. Trying to reply to Eleanor not sure if I’m in the right place!

I don’t get the impression many people are that interested in the third baby. They have the heir and spare, on Charles’ new rules this new baby should not ever have royal duties. They can of course have whatever size family they chose personally, but they cannot expect them to be funded by the BRF for all their children . If benefits are being cut for third children, perhaps this child should take more of a back seat from the public.

Will they start taking three children on their holitours? Think of the cost of that?

I think many women who have suffered HG and severe morning sickness are sick of being told she cannot possibly work when she is pregnant. Most women simply have to unless so ill they cannot get out of bed – if not paid work, then it is parenting etc for older kids. She is not setting a good example.

The fact that her Paddington dance was on Page 3 of the DM says it all – after being out of the limelight and this appearance so unexpected, one would have thought she would be on the front page. She is not selling papers.

          3. Birdy, I agree with you- I will say however that her paddington dance was the leading headline on my DM website when I opened it up yesterday morning. And remained there for over half the day with other smaller articles in the side column about her dress, how her hair is shorter again, etc. I wonder if we get a different version here in the states than you do in the U.K.?

          4. You’re right,Birdy. She has the power for changeBut I don’t think.she will ever be that person. So, let her home and shopping. Her heart is often not in it, so it doesn’t really make any difference.
Perhaps, she could work part-time,it’s so frustrating to see her try when we all know, she doesn’t really want to.

          5. That’s interesting Birdy that she wasn’t on the front page like normal. This is a small thing, but with the first and second pregnancies it was trending on bing. With this third pregnancy it has not. I think people just don’t care as much this time around. It is like “been there-done that” Combined with the fact that Kate is not as popular now.

      2. It seems to me that traditionally the people who are born royal and into the luxury of monarchy are the ones expected to “pay back” their due to society based on their privilege (the blood royals). Marrying in, to be really crass about it, is another form of serving them by having children and keeping them happy. So let the blood royals “give back” with public service, and let the consorts (Camilla, Kate, Sophie) step back a bit? I guess its tricky to modernize a medieval institution.

      3. None of this is actually work. If she can take the time to go shopping she can take an hour here and there to meet the people who pay for her luxurious lifestyle. No one is expecting her to work 9 to 5 at a factory or office, but a sporadic hour once or twice a week.

They already have two nannies as well as household staff to clean and cook. Stay at home moms are doing the cooking and cleaning on top of raising kids. Kate isn’t an ordinary housewife.

And if they dare propose this, then she needs to have her clothing budget cut off completely. She has enough to “manage” until all three kids are at school.

    3. No!If Kate is not willing to work then take away her title.I know that traditionally that it doesn’t work like that. But times have changed.I respect the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh because they have served the country.People all over the world have children everyday and raise them.Kate doesn’t deserve a title for doing that.
I have absolutely nothing against being a stay at home mom.But for a title she must work.

    4. @Amy, IMO, the role of the married in consort has changed since the years of ‘only job being a breeder.’ Also, with modern medicine, pregnancy isn’t so dangerous anymore and the heirs are likely to survive infancy and childhood so it’s not as if the consort needs to worry about having 12 pregnancies to get 3 surviving children. I do agree with you that they (consort) also need to support the heir/monarch, however, as others have pointed out, they just receive too many benefits to allow her (IMO) to just basically be a stay-at-home-mom. I mean, it’s not like any of them really “work” anyway, so for her to not be able to do even the barest of bare minimums just feels so wrong, IMO. She would still have plenty of time to spend with her mother, shop, hang with her children, make cheese toast for William, or whatever else she’s doing with her private time.

For me, I wouldn’t have such a problem with a few years off for motherhood IF she had been a hard-worker before getting pregnant. But she wasn’t, so that speaks to her lazy character. She was lazy after college, waiting for the ring, she was lazy as a new bride (supposedly living cozily with William being a newlywed…but she was really spending most of her time with her mother in Bucklebury). To me, it’s really just disgraceful that a healthy, adult person would take so much and give back so little. It’s also so selfish and disgusting that she appears to have no problem spending so.much.money on new clothes and samey, ugly Kiki earrings but then doesn’t want to actually work.

It’s also the lying – why tell us during the engagement interview that she was ready to hit the ground running? Why have your PR leak that she’s the most educated and prepared royal bride ever? Why insist time after time that she is so very keen to work but is only being held back by the queen (until the queen’s people state the Cambridges make their own schedule) or another pregnancy and “HG” (but then she is well enough to go on vacations) or some other refutable reason. The reason they have to lie, IMO, is that the truth – that she wants to just stay at home and be a rich man’s wife – would be unacceptable to the general public who support their lavish lifestyle.

      1. She basically wants what Pippa will have. Absolute freedom from public expectations, grandly wealthy and only in the headlines if she chooses. Sadly, when you marry the 2nd in line, this lifestyle will never be a fair option. But they keep trying!

    5. Yes! The sooner W&K and their staff stop this charade the better. Just claim Kate has her hands full with the children and is stepping out of the spotlight for many events. She can show up for the balcony events in a new dress, smile, wave and go home.

        1. Oh, poor Charlotte. I hope Baby 3 is not her gift this year. And, since I am betting it will be a girl, poor Charlotte, who is already used to Kate being with her all the time that Kate is available. Which appears to be a lot of time.

          1. I liked the comment but I don’t think the new baby will be Charlotte’s gift. It depends how they approach matters. My older brother was brought a boat when I was born. Apparently a gift from me. I think it depends how you approach it. It took a bit of explaining to my eldest niece that she still mattered when her sister was born. Explaining to a two year old is hard work. Luckily I think something stuck.

          2. That doesn’t mean that Charlotte cannot be friends with George and the new baby. My nieces are friends but they fight too. I think I would rather they were friends and lead separate lives. To be honest William and Kate are not close with any other royal couple with kids. They keep themselves to themselves. Goodness knows how dull that must be for the kids.

          3. Making friends while going to pre-school won’t exactly diffuse any green-eyed monsters when the new baby comes home. Those are natural and I hope it’s handled wisely for both kids.

  6. So what are you all’s guesses in the poll? I said girl named Alice born on April 29th and Kate will wear pink when she leaves the hospital.

    How about you??

    1. I say April 28th, girl named Carole, no joke, Alice x) I would say too and her dress will be….did Kate wear something orange before? I would say something light red or lavender, like in Germany. But who knows?

    2. I think it is going to be a boy.My reasoning for that is that I was wrong in predicting the sex of their first two children and with this one I first thought girl but given my history I change to boy XD

      1. I think it will be a girl. Alice, Alexandra or Amelia. Just wildly guessing. I prefer Adelaide or Victoria. I bet Victoria will be a middle name. They didn’t name Charlotte, Alice so I don’t know where the suggestion came from. It is a classical name though.

          1. I thought they choose Charlotte because they just liked the name.
Is it me or does Kate just not really understand kids. I mean babies grow u p. That is the point. You have a baby and nurture it and they grow up. Kate talks about babies as if they are dolls.

          2. I thought Charlotte was after Charles (Charlotte is considered to be the female version) and Pippa (her middle name is Charlotte).

          3. Kimothy I doubt it was after either of them. But it ok to think that. Can I change my mind. I think 15 April. I think I polled a may date instead. Sorry.

          4. Isn’t Charlotte somehow connected with the name Carole? We talked about that, I seem to recall, when Charlotte’s name was announced. Charlotte after Charles, but after Carole, too.

I’m now thinking Alexandra is part of the baby’s name. Elizabeth, or Alice Axexandra.

I also tried to post earlier, but I don’t think it is here, that I thought this baby was going to be born at home, so I didn’t vote on what color Kate would wear leaving the hospital.

So many of us are saying “girl.” Who really thinks it will be a boy? His name? If it’s a boy, which I doubt at this point, I’m going for Arthur Charles Phillip.

Oops, this posted right before my initial post, which is not the way I wanted it too, but that’s the way things are!

          5. Caroline is an option though it is closely related to Charlotte, of course, but I doubt they’d care. 😉

If a boy, it would be nice if they used older royal names like Richard, or Stephen. But there is Richard of Gloucester, William’s cousin, but I doubt they know him well at all…

        1. I bet girl and chose Elizabeth because I despise the name Alice. I do think Diana will be a middle name. Maybe Alice Elizabeth Diana, which makes Diana not the middle name, but you get it, right.

What happened to the reports about a home birth. I did not vote on Kate leaving the hospital wearing what color.

          1. If they have two girls, I don’t think they would have the same middle names. Charlotte’s middle names are Elizabeth Diana, so those names likely won’t get used at all if they have a second girl.

          2. +1.
I suggested one name for my middle niece and my brother used that and another for my youngest niece. I am actually surprised my brother used them.

    3. I guessed early on April 7th. It will be a girl and they will suck up to HM and name her Elizabeth. It’s for fun, right? That is why I picked the date and the name.

    4. I think it’ll be earlier April. I think they fudge the dates a bit plus 1st babies are almost always late and subsequent usuallly come early.
I said girl with Elizabeth as a name. I forgot that it was one of charlotte’s middle names. I said blue leaving cuz we know how much kate seems to love her blue tops =)
Anyhoodles KMR, I liked your other poll set-ups better. The ones that show how others have voted. I liked to see where my votes fell. For future poll taking FYI =)

      1. Thanks for the feedback on polls! I mostly did it this way as a test for something else and because Google Forms offered a date picker so I didn’t have to list out 30 birth date options. But I will take your feedback for the next time I do polls.

    5. I said boy, named Arthur (not because I think they’ll name it that, but because I like that name), born on April 25, and Kate will wear red to leave the hospital.

    6. @Kimothy – I selected April 20 for delivery. As it’s the third child, seems like it could come early? Although I don’t think Charlotte was early, based on the calculations in this thread…but I always thought it was first baby late, next babies early…

I think she’s having a girl. Name, Alexandra. (Full name, I’d go: Alexandra Victoria Carole; Charlotte got both Elizabeth and Diana for middle names, so I really think if #3 is a girl, Carole is gettin’ in there somewhere!).

I think she’ll wear white leaving the hospital.

    7. If a girl, Victoria. If a boy, I like Arthur. I’m sad they did not use Alexander for George, it’s such a nice name.

Diana wanted to use Victoria on a girl, and had a cow Fergie and Andrew wanted to use it–so they used Beatrice instead.

I hope it’s another boy. George needs a little friend with how badly his parents talk about him.

      1. My first two babies were a little early and the third was waaaay late. It is certainly not necessarily the case that subsequent babies arrive earlier.
        I voted for a girl, a Victoria!

        1. Yes, I wish it was the first name. It’s such a lovely underused name in that family. I read Kate wanted it as his first name!

      1. I like that name too. I have never seen Kate wear purple. Correct me if I am wrong. I have seen Princess Beatrice wear purple but Kate usually wears red, blue, yellow or black.

          1. Thank you, KMR. In Victoria, the Queen wears it. Actually, all of them accept the lace one are not that bad. I like the last dress especially.

  7. Very nice numbers for her previous two pregnancies, thanks for making the effort! I believe they announced everything just bit later in this pregnancy, like one week. But I guess we will have a good hint on the due date once they announce maternity leave – it will be at least 4 weeks before the due date.

  8. So they announce, I guess, once they have the 12 week scan. And morning sickness begins around weeks 4 – 6 so they announce her HG when morning sickness makes it necessary to cancel engagements and then formally announce approximate due date 6 weeks later at week 12. Week 12 is also around the time you might begin to feel better, not perhaps up to dancing, but still 🙂 Either way, she would have known 2 weeks in, so the announcement about being keen to work is ridiculous.

    1. So, for sure, there will be no April wedding, nor May, but maybe by the end of June, Kate will be back in shape to put on a new dress and appear in public. So I’m predicting a July wedding for Harry.
As for the new baby’s arrival, things would be so much simpler ( and private) if Kate had a home birth at K.P.

        1. I doubt, with no engagement announcement yet, that they could get things together for a Feb. wedding. So I think this will have to be an after the baby wedding!

      1. Yes, but maybe a winter wedding. Why the heck should they wait to accommodate Kate? Harry needs to make a statement and get his way for a change. If they wait til the summer, Meghan will be almost 37. If they want children, I hope that won’t be a problem.

        1. Jenny: “…but maybe a winter wedding.”
Since W&K married on St Catherine of Sienna’s feast day, the obvious would be 1 November for Rachel, since she has no specific day, and the 1st is All Saints Day in the CoE and the day reserved for all the Saints, known and unknown.

          1. Grace, I was talking about winter 2018 — like February or early March. I hate to think of them waiting until November 1 of 2018 Unless you have them eloping this November. Now, how would that sit with the Royal Family?

      2. I really hope they don’t work around Kate because it is not her day. She may not want to leave the house anyway. Kate never gets so big during her pregnancies that she couldn’t find a suitable dress and frankly her vanity shouldn’t be accommodated here. Avoiding her due date is one thing. But adding a few months so Kate can go to the gym and be super skinny is another thing entirely.

        1. Didn’t Madeleine go to her brother’s wedding just days before giving birth? She probably felt huge and uncomfortable but it was HIS day and Sophia’s.

    2. How about the fact that just because you’re 2 weeks pregnant, doesn’t mean that you’re going to be able to continue that pregnancy. Let’s look at Zara as a very sad example of that fact of life. It’s not at all unusual for women to wait until 12 weeks to announce, as we are all well aware. Perhaps their intention was to announce an increase in workload at that time and considered that it would make no difference in the grand scheme of things if Kate had to step back on that promise if the pregnancy remained viable. The reality is that William has stepped up so the announcement was not a complete lie.

      1. Why continue to cover up for Kate? She’s lazy. She doesn’t want to step up, she keeps ( via her people ) saying she’s going to step up. She never does. Pregnant women work . Pregnant women having difficult pregnancies work .
Why is pampered Kate excused? Most working women work 8 hours a day, for her it is rarely more than 30 minutes. Let’s stop making excuses it does women in general no favours.

Sorry this is not a personal gripe but a general one to all women who think it is ok for Kate to go into hiding ding whenever she is pregnant.

        1. I don’t disagree with you that Kate should work more etc., but I find it really insensitive to suggest that she is so conniving that she made an announcement that she was going to work more with the intent to actually just not work morea. I don’t think that it’s the most logical explanation, even if we think she’s lazy. TW: discussion of Zara’s miscarriage.

I have to think that seeing what Zara went through would’ve had a major impact on how they approached the news of their 3rd pregnancy, as in being a few weeks along is unfortunately no guarantee. I hope what I’m saying makes sense.

    3. Week 12 is not when you feel better if you have HG.

Mostly, you never feel better if you have HG. :/ Until the baby is born!

I think they announce around 5-7 weeks, very early.

  9. The Queen’s birthday is April 21st. Could you imagine how crazy the press would get if the baby is born on the Queen’s birthday.

  10. KMR – thanks for all those stats and for making the poll…but I think the first question of your form should say __/__/2018 (not 2017). I was able to change the year manually though 🙂

  11. Following the assumption that they announced each pregnancy at 6 weeks and each due month at 12 weeks I’m estimating that her due dates were/are:

    George–29 July 2013
Charlotte–4 May 2015 (though they were photographed at the doctor on 15 October 2014 if you count from there assuming that she was exactly 12 weeks at the ultrasound then my guess would be 29 April 2015)
Baby 3–30 April/1 May 2018 (with the pregnancy announced on a Monday and the due month announced on a Tuesday)

Which means that with George she delivered at 39 weeks and with Charlotte at either 39 weeks 5 days (based on announcements) or 40 weeks 3 days (based on ultrasound). So she was possibly barely over due with Charlotte. But not the weeks and weeks overdue the press speculates based on mid-month due dates with both George and Charlotte.

I’m totally with you KMR; baby 3 last week of April with the sightliest possibility of first week of May.

Interesting to note is that she should be able to hand out Shamrocks on St. Patrick’s day as 5 weeks later (her standard pre-maternity leave) is only the 21st of April.

    1. From what I remember didn’t Kate have to do some swimming to bring on labour with Charlotte. Nothing wrong with that but I do remember that. Then Charlotte was born rather quickly. I think Charlotte was over due. George I am not so sure as everyone was camped out in early July.

      1. Charlotte was expected by the press right after the Queen’s birthday.I remember something like April 22th and than it was a long wait until the birth.Perhaps, they had the wrong date or Charlotte let her parents wait for her 🙂

      2. If I’ve got the dates correct:

With George then did not settle in London until the 19th of June. I think the mass camp out was more the press not expecting them to take such a long pre-maternity leave. Diana was at Ascot on the 17th and had William on the 21st of June 1982. So I think everyone just figured since in was July and they had not seen Kate in two weeks they baby could come at any moment. No major UK media outlet would have wanted to be the one not at the hospital for the birth of the future King/Queen.

With Charlotte they did not settle in London until the 21st of April. I would believe more the 29 April due guess over the 4 May. I think I remember reading that her doctor doesn’t like patients to go more that 10 days overdue which if she went to his max and was induce that would move the due date guess to 22 April which seems unlikely with when the decamped to London. I thought the swimming was primarily for George (no that the exercise would done Kate any harm). Also I don’t put much stock in labor length one of my best friends had her first in 2 hours and her second took 22 hours and a c section.

But this is really all just guessing and my pre-irritation about another great Kate wait.

        1. The photogs waited overnight until K left hospital with George. She left same day with Charlotte. Baby #3 probably won’t get the ‘great wait’ perhaps a dozen photogs or maybe the ‘family’ photographer Chris will have the only opportunity this time.

          1. Isn’t she going to stay in the palace this time? I read she is planning a ‘home birth’. I wonder if that is because they fear that baby #3 won’t be as newsworthy, or the photographers aren’t ‘keen’ on hanging around waiting for days.

        2. Yeah, I suspect Kate was induced considering she went in at 6am both babies. Usual time for that.

My labor was over 24 hours long. It was horrendous!!!

    2. AFAIK didn’t Carole say George was due sometime late June/early July? I remember a lot about George being very overdue.

Both babies I would suspect Kate had an induction. Going in at 6am both times, makes sense to me, imo.

      1. 13 July was reportedly given by a friend of the couple and that the baby would be a Leo (23 July–22 August) by Carole. But that’s all really just speculation and was probably made up by an bored press corp. The Leo reports started on 15 July (one month into the pre-maternity leave).

Prince William was playing polo 100 miles from London on 14 July and Kate was reportedly still in Bucklebury until the 21st.

      2. KP just said July. It was the press that worked themselves into a tizzy with the possibility that the baby would be born on Diana’s birthday, July 1. So the press started gathering outside the Lindo Wing on their own at the beginning of July. There were ‘sources’ saying the baby was due in the middle of July, but given Kate and William’s actions, I do not think the baby was due until the end of July. William was perfectly willing to leave his pregnant wife the weekend the press said she was supposedly due, and Kate wasn’t even in London at that time. I honestly do not think George was late. It only appeared that way because the press freaked out at the beginning of July. If the press hadn’t worked themselves into such a tizzy over the baby being born on Diana’s birthday, the Great Kate Wait wouldn’t have been such a long ordeal. Granted, KP mishandled that one since they didn’t bother to say that the press shouldn’t gather so early. That’s why in April 2015, the press weren’t allowed to gather until the middle of April.

        1. I remember the Lindo Wing closed the street at the end of June, too, didn’t they? And had to keep extending it. KP dun screwed up with all that, though.

  12. @Birdy thank you for you insight. The hoopla surrounding George arrival was expected. The future heir to the British throne. Charlotte’s cooled somewhat. I think people were excited and hoping for a girl. Now you have baby #3. Children are a blessing. I’m not trying diminish that. Or sound harsh when I say you have an heir, a spare, and the spare to the spare. This baby will have probably have no royal duties in the future. If that is the direction the House of Windsor is heading. Charlotte may not even have an official role once George has children of his own and the House descends from him. Charlotte’s children will not even have royal titles because of her being born a female. So the question would be what do you do with two children who are born royal and will have no possible role in the future of the monarchy? I wouldn’t take a page out of Andrew’s book. He has fought tooth and nail to have his daughters be part of the firm. Yet they are how far down the line of succession? I think it will be hard on these children.

    1. This is a great question. What do you do with the spare (and the spares to the spare) when they are no longer needed? It’s almost cruel to bring a child into the world, raise them in luxury, give them very little in way of a work ethic (this is the Duke and Duchess of Dolittle, after all), then cut them off when they are adults. After all, the younger children also won’t get too much in terms of inheritable liquid wealth. Hopefully, they’ll marry well. And hopefully baby #3 is the last.

      1. @Reba and @Kimothy I completely agree with you Ladies. I think it is very cruel to do to a child or children. These children will be raised in a world or extreme wealth and privilege. Then what happens when George’s has children of his own? Charlotte and the younger sibling are tossed aside? I’m not trying to sound snarky or even mean. I just hope the younger siblings have a guiding hand as they grow up. Someone in the family and outside of the family. That they can learn from the best of both worlds. Harry as a mentor in the sense of royal life and what is expected of them as they get older. And someone on the outside. Who can instill a different aspects of each of them. When I saying “outside” I’m not speaking of the Middleton Clan with their spin on middle class. I’m middle class and I’m not a millionaire. I just really hope Charlotte and the new baby can navigate their own course in life. And please I hope at least one or all of them inherit a “work ethic” gene from somewhere in the family tree.

      2. Reba: “…the younger children also won’t get too much in terms of inheritable liquid wealth”
Then Charlotte can learn finance from Uncle Matthews, Uncle Hugh or Cousin Adam and have a job befitting her social class and income expectations. What fun! Baby #3 could join the Navy and take a lifelong position in the Navy as others in the family have done. It’s a thought.

    2. I was just about to compare baby #3 to Beatrice and Eugenie! This child will be as stuck between a rock and a hard place as the York girls are right now.

      1. If Baby Number 3 is a girl who takes after Diana, she’ll move up front and center and never get an identity of her own! I doubt this will happen, though. The Middleton genes seem to be pretty strong in the Cambridge babies. But, then, again, Charlotte does resemble William, somewhat, and he looked a lot like his mother when he was younger. Not so much now.

  13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj5F7sJ-Syo

I can’t find the clip where the announcer was so funny and unimpressed. Does anyone have it, I have scoured you tube. The clip above is about William, and his possible reason for wanting another baby. He so appreciated having a brother because his brother was the only one who could possible understand the ‘role’ they were born into.

      1. Thank you so muchd. GraceH! If KMR didn’t object to capital letters I would have written it in caps. No way would I have ever found this on my own, and I love love love love love it.

  14. Poor very ill Kate has been out and about again today in her very very skinny jeans.
So as she is now well can we expect her to step up? Most pregnanct ladies in the UK work full time until 6 weeks before the birth.
    HG must be a myth.

    1. And wearing a jacket in a different colour that she’s worn before……could she not just wear the original? Go to Grenfell Kate.

    2. Oh don’t get too far ahead Birdy, a royal source said ‘she’s better and is keen to do as much as she can. But she’s taking it day-to-day in deciding what she can do.’ Apparently they are going to use that all the time now. That way there is no expectation of ‘work’ for her. She can pick and choose the fun events.

      1. Yup, she can pick and choose what she wants to do, because otherwise she is so very ill and cannot function!

Man, I could not pick and choose what I did when I was pregnant. Lying on the floor in the bathroom or lying in bed with a sick bucket. Decisions, decisions!

    3. Wow, just wow. Birdy I went to another site and saw the pictures, skinny jeans that look worn. I don’t have any way of keeping up with the DM. I don’t see this as one bit professional at all, and now it seems that it has been disclosed that it’s a brand new ‘blazer’ $1500 USD. Who does that, spends a ton of money on clothing that won’t fit again. She’s ‘with child’ and bound to the same body changes as any other woman so it seems a bit extravagant. I don’t think that Kate has any idea of what things cost, but I wonder where she found the strength to shop for this. I do not in any way buy into the severe HG or HG at all. I am not a doctor but I have read too many posts from too many women to not think that she or her wranglers are flat out and out lying.
Stuffing herself into those skinny jeans? So inappropriate for public view. That’s just my opinion. Even on ‘casual Fridays’ I suspect that these would be frowned upon. She still seems to border on exhibionistic, and maybe the last two events have caused a flare up what with her wearing those (to use kind words) conservative dresses. Yet, in my humble opinion, another Kateastrophe.

      1. Royals: ‘… it seems that it has been disclosed that it’s a brand new ‘blazer’ $1500 USD. Who does that, spends a ton of money on clothing that won’t fit again.”

This is same jacket she already owns but in red. What do mean fit again? This one doesn’t fit already if you look at the closure of the top buttons. She’ll be able to wear it again. Picking up her theme dressing, she could wear again to visit the 1851 Trust next year. ?

      2. I hate those jeggings for so many reasons and would burn them if I ever got a hold of them. But at this point they are a faded black and clash with the turtleneck she was wearing and the boots, which I actually liked. In some of the pics there is a woman in the back ground with a great pant suit and that woman looks amazing compared to Kate.

Also why did all 3 need to go to the same event again?

        1. Because it is a program funded by the Royal Foundation and it has 3 names in the title. And, the duchess is ‘sporty’ along with the two
          brothers. ?

  15. George (and Charlotte if she goes to Thomas’s) will have a half day of school on 27 March then will be off until 17 April. It will be interesting to see how much of the break the family spends in Norfolk/Bucklebury.

      1. I highly doubt she’ll fly to the Carib that late in her pregnancy. I don’t even see her traveling to France; it’s her third and she could easily give birth in a couple of hours. It would be too risky.

      2. Lent term starts 9 January with half term 12-16 February. Assuming they don’t take the kids out of school. I hope that she would not travel outside the UK during her pre-maternity leave (as I have her at 35 weeks on March 26) which would leave half term as the only option. I would prefer France as if my estimates are correct she would be turning 29 weeks around 12 February. Now with Charlotte they returned from Mustique on 4 February 2015 and I would put Kate at 28 weeks upon return. Personally I would not do any long haul flights in my third trimester let alone to an island without any medical care available unless it was unavoidable. If they take a vacation she must go to Sweden/Norway especially if they go to Mustique, no excuses. Her staff should know her exact due date and should schedule the Sweden/Norway trip accordingly. Short haul flights are generally safe until 36 weeks.

Add the fact that several posters on KMR believe that the announced this pregnancy (if not all three) later than I’m estimating. That belief moves my guess due date of 30 April/1 May up into mid April or even early April.

  16. I think they will name the baby either Caroline (Full name possibly: Caroline Victoria Rose) or Michael (Full name possibly: Michael Francis Albert). Since this baby is third, I wouldn’t be surprised if they paid homage directly to a Middleton grandparent.

    1. I actually think differently. kate got what she (and her mother) wanted, William and all that comes with him. The ring and title. Harry has repeatedly shown that he toes the line when it comes to William. I don’t see the introduction of Meghan changing that.
I don’t think Kate has ever had any really close friends of her own, except her family. I think during the dating years she might have been threatened by another woman, trying to keep them away from William but she was the only one who wanted him. So, i really see her thinking of Meghan as a nonentity.
The newspapers will clearly still give priorities to she and William because of their title and they’re sycophants. So unless she and William do something monumentally stupid, the status quo will remain. She and William will live in their isolation bubble

  17. Maybe the reason for Kate’s miraculous recovery and 2 unannounced visits in the last last few days has something to do with this………Top story in the DM is that Harry took Meghan to visit the Queen last week at BP. They had tea together.

    1. The day it supposedly happened HM had an engagement that evening and Harry had the Attitude Awards, so probably very made up.

  18. I keep saying Meghan and harry should not schedule their wedding around Kate’s pregnancy ,but on other forums i get shut down for saying so. But honestly, Kate should not be a consideration re Harry’s wedding.

    1. I’m always in the camp of the wedding couple should do what they want and not worry about what their guests want.

      1. New poster here, longtime lurker (love you guys!). I loved all the dates and how it might predict the due date. To extend it further … Has anyone looked at how long it was after the birth of george and charlotte that Kate had her first outing? That might tell us how much cushion H and M would give Kate with their wedding date. Six weeks with George? I’m remembering K playing volleyball in her wedges.

        1. Hi Duch. I have not, but I can. Let’s see…

          Birth Date:
          George – July 22, 2013
          Charlotte – May 2, 2015

          Kate’s First Appearance After Birth:
George – August 29, 2013 (Ring O’Fire Anglesey Coastal Ultra Marathon)
Charlotte – June 13, 2015 (Trooping the Color)

Weeks Between Birth and First Appearance After Birth:
          George – 5 weeks 3 days
          Charlotte – 6 weeks

          1. Thanks! Like you, I wouldn’t put it in my wedding date planning. But I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry and Meghan graciously did that – probably astute too to keep WK happy. So that would say after mid-June.

      2. Exactly. Kate isn’t important to this wedding at all. It is a day for Meghan and Harry. I am sure they will aim to not have it scheduled during her likely due date, but waiting until Kate feels skinny enough to be seen in public is utterly ridiculous.

        1. Why are we discussing Meghan and Harry’s wedding as if it’s a sure thing? We don’t even know if there’s going to be a wedding.

          1. Because of their ages.
Let’s say they break up in several months.Meghan would lose everything.I don’t know if they would take her back at Suits or if she would blog again her “Tig”.
Harry also had to watch out for a new possible bride, although, men have more time of course.
It’s not really romantic,of course. But people tend to be “seriously” in love and tend to marry their current partner when they are in their thirties.

  19. To answer Eleanor, I am not crazy about Kate being pregnant again. In this day and age, more than 2 kids is not the norm and certainly not the norm for the last generation of the BRF.

    1. @Leah thank you for responding. I have two myself. A boy and a girl. I had my daughter who is the youngest at thirty six. That is why I was surprised she is having another one. As well with Charles’s vision of slimming down the monarchy it kind of doesn’t fit into the grand scheme.

      1. In the States, I see more and more couples having more than two children. That’s becoming more of a norm. So many of the parents of those kids were only children themselves. I think the loneliness that some of them may have experienced has made them want more kids themselves. Oh, I know many olny children who loved being the only ones, but I think the tides are turning, at least here in the States, with more people having at least three or four children. At least where I live, anyway.

        1. Jenny I completely agree. When I was a kid (I’m 36) most of my friends had one other sibling, myself included. However, most families I know have 3 or 4. My husband and I have 3 and we are trying to figure out if we are done or will have one more. We also live on one salary in the Bay Area so it’s not like this is something only well to do folks are doing. It almost seems to be a slow turn back to the way our grandparents were raised and did things. Growing your own produce, supporting small local business, homeschooling, larger families… it is interesting to see the shift here and be a part of it!

          1. I’m from a family of five kids, but never thought I would have five. I think I want one more of my own to offer company to my little girl. I have two step sons, so if I have another child, there will be four kids in this family . That’s enough for me and my husband.

I do like what you said about being part of a new wave of Yanks having more kids, though. We live in an expensive part of the country, too. I doubt we’d go for more than one more child.

        2. Three seems the new two around here in suburban Los Angeles.

I was an only and wanted more than one but I doubt it’ll happen.

        3. Hah! I’m an only child, and I want 3 kids. I had a good childhood, but I was lonely, had trouble sharing, couldn’t handle teasing, and was a very serious child in general. I’m grateful to my parents, but I want my kids to have siblings. My husband is sort of an only child too (half and step siblings he isn’t close to) so there are no cousins to play with in either of our families. My kids will have each other, if nothing else.

      2. Charles may want to slim the monarchy, but that may not stick once William ascends to the throne. Considering how much William and Kate shirk duties now, I get the feeling they are going to rely on their children to carry most of the load in the future.

    2. I’ve already posted about how my medical issues have prevented me from having children but I’ve always imagined/pictured myself having multiples (twins or more) for as long as I can remember! In fact, when I was a kid and used to play with my Barbies, I’d go through a baby book, give each one a name and a personality (this is your name and you’re the nice one/mean one/etc.), and put two aside and say “these are the twins, so and so is the older one and this is her name and personality” and so on! Weird, I know. 😉

I’m the oldest of three girls (four year gap between each of us) and though we drove each other absolutely insane, when we were younger, I now consider myself blessed to have my two sisters.
