Service of Thanksgiving for Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday

The British Royal Family came out to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II‘s 90th birthday with a Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral today, June 10, including favorites: Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Today is also Prince Philip‘s 95th birthday.

Over 2,000 people from the worlds of politics and religion, ordinary citizens, and 53 royal family members gathered in St Paul’s for a service which featured a sermon by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, as well as prayers spoken by a 90-year-old Welsh widow who was born on the same day as the Queen.

Welby said in part:

“Ninety years ago, Her Majesty The Queen was born. […] No one at the Queen’s birth knew for what she was destined. Today we recognise that God knew. […] Your Majesty, today we rejoice for the way in which God’s loving care has fearfully and wonderfully sustained you – as well as Prince Philip marking his 95th birthday today. And we rejoice, Your Majesty, for the way in which the life God has given you in turn you have given wonderfully in service to this nation. You have been an instrument of God’s peace, and through you God has so often turned fear into wonder – and joy.”

I love it when the Queen wears yellow; she looks so bright and cheery. HM wore an Angela Kelly primrose yellow A-line coat with diamanté stones and matching dress and hat. She wore a big brooch, too: Queen Mary’s diamond Richmond brooch with a large center pearl.

Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall of course attended. For some reason the Merry Wives of Windsor all wore the same light blue/gray color (I wonder if it was intentional). Camilla starts us off in this repeated light blue Bruce Oldfield outfit and Philip Treacy hat, which she paired with her pearl choker and small diamond clasp and sapphire and diamond dragonfly brooches.

Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry arrived together. Kate is the second Windsor wife in light blue. Kate wore a new bespoke light blue Catherine Walker coat with white lace embroidery, and paired it with a white Jane Taylor hat which she previously wore to Princess Charlotte’s Christening.

Kate accessorized with her LK Bennett “Nina” clutch and Gianvito Rossi nude suede pumps which she first wore to the BP Garden Party in May. She wore her aquamarine and diamond earrings she’s worn several times, and a new aquamarine and diamond pendant necklace.

Here is Prince Andrew with his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Eugenie looks absolutely stunning in her Eponine London red dress with cutouts at the collar and a full skirt. And the headband bow is cute, but not too cutesy. This is the best I’ve ever seen her look.

Beatrice wore a black and white coat from Burberry (£2,995) which I’m not hating. But I love Eugenie’s look.

The entire Wessex family came out, which I think is a first for an event such as this: Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Lady Louise Windsor, and James, Viscount Severn. Sophie is the third and final Wife of Windsor in this light blue/gray color. Sophie wore a new bespoke Suzannah coat and Jane Taylor hat.

Louise wore a new pink coat from Zara, and a white headband from Jane Taylor.

Zara Phillips Tindall, accompanied by her husband Mike Tindall, wore a blue and black floral Erdem dress ($325.00). Y’all know how much I hate Erdem, so I’ll just leave it at that.

Peter Phillips‘ wife Autumn Phillips on the other hand looked amazing in her green Suzannah “Kaleidoscope” dress (£445.00). I don’t even mind the feather-y hat.

Here’s Lord Frederick Windsor with his wife, Lady Frederick Windsor, and sister, Lady Gabriella Windsor.

After the Service at St. Paul’s, HM, Philip, Charles, and Camilla attended a reception at Buckingham Palace, while the rest of the Windsors attended a lunch at Guildhall.

We have an update in the “George is a monster/Charlotte is a saint” Cambridge children narrative! In the past, William has said Princess Charlotte is “a little joy of heaven” and is “ladylike”, but now Kate is saying that Charlotte’s ladylike facade hides a feisty little girl.

“Kate, 34, was chatting to Glynis Double, whose husband, Paul, as the City’s Remembrancer, is in charge of protocol.
“Mrs Double said afterwards: ‘The Duchess was saying how happy she was to be here and how lovely the service was. As a mum myself I asked her about her children and said what a pretty little thing we all thought Princess Charlotte was.
“‘She said: ‘Oh she is very cute but she has got quite a feisty side’. I then asked her about George and she said he was a really lovely little boy. She said she hopes that George will keep Charlotte in order.'”

    Eugenie for the win!

Kate is dressed exactly like her mother. IMO, she should have worn white shoes.

    Really like Autumn’s ensemble!

I believe the aquamarine necklace she wore is the same one Carol wore to W&K’s wedding.

Princess Eugenie wins the best dressed! She looked amazing and youthful. Even her hat is perfection with her hairstyle and makeup.

Kate looks nice, but her typical. Her coat dress looks like something her mom would wear or has worn already. Such a difference compared to Eugenie. I like Kate’s up-do though. That’s what she should have done at last night’s event! An up-do would have shown off the dresses neckline and earrings, as well as not gotten in the way during her speech.

    The Bad.
Well she looks the part in the Catherine Walker but it’s so aging her mother could wear it. Her curtesy, her chicken legs, her guffawing and gurning like a maniac in St Paul’s…..give me strength. As for William’s bow…..arrogant sod, try and look like you mean it. Look at Harry’s bow from the neck and William barely manages a nod.
Poor Beatrice has been hammered in the press again. £3000 of Burberry and it wasn’t good. Although I love the shoes. I think they’re Kurt Geiger or Nicholas Kirkwood from a few seasons back. I really wanted those in nude from NK and they kept selling out. But Eugenie….Wow. How does Zara manage to look blowsy in Erdem when she’s an athlete I’ll never know but I always think her and Mike Tindall look like they have the most amazing sex…..this couple has so much chemistry that they sizzle. I love them.

    The Good.
Autumn looked gorgeous and Lady Louise so sweet. So nice that she wore a headpiece for the occasion. I think that was the first time I’ve seen her in headwear. She looked like a proper little lady. Camilla and Sophie as always nail it and I adore the Queen in yellow too. She looks like a little ray of sunshine. Princess Anne has looked so happy of late and today she was glowing. Princess Michael had the most scene stealing hat, this lady doesn’t half court attention and never mind who sits behind her but I love her for it. And her daughter Gabrielle looked gorgeous in red. As did Lady Amelia Windsor in Chanel who the press are going a bit mad for.

It was a lovely day and it was so nice to hear the crowds outside St Pauls singing Happy Birthday to the DoE. He steadied the Queen today going up the steps at St Paul’s. Getting out of the car looks like it’s troubling her. They are going to be so tired by next week and it’s Ascot so no rest from the entertaining.

I saw a DM article about Lady Amelia and they were going crazy for her, but the photos wouldn’t load for some reason. Then I saw a photo of her while I was looking through photos and I didn’t think she looked all that great, which is why I didn’t include her.

Lol, I get what you mean that Zara and Mike have great sex. They do look like they have a comfortable, sizzling chemistry with each other. I don’t get that same sense from the other royal couples.

Zara and Mike are definitely a love match. I love that. Lady Amelia has that whole boho Cressida thing going on which the British fashion press love. I’m not usually a fan of the unwashed boho look but head to toe Chanel and accessories, black outfit in summer and a canary yellow 2.55 handbag…..now that’s style and she rocked it. Such confidence in fashion at such a young age that she could teach the rest of them a thing or too but apparently she’s a fashion student and doing an internship in Paris.

Yea I liked Amelia’s outfit too! It was simple, dramatic and the yellow purse was an unexpected touch. She looked like a sullen teenager but she is quite pretty, compared to the horse faced features of the majority of the Windsors.

I share the same opinion as KMR, Lady Amelia did not looked that good I did like her sister’s look, though.
Of course in the end this is down to personal taste and I’m not a fan of chanel these days. The only person that can make me love an outfit without liking a single piece of it is Máxima!

I wasn’t a big fan of Lady Amelia’s outfit either. I dont know if it’s just me, but I almost seem to get more of a sense of snobbery from more of the distant royals, particularly the Kents, than I do from the “core” royal family.

            June 11, 2016 at 4:22 pm (9 months ago)

I need to amend my comment and say the snobbery is most noticed from Prince MIchael of Kents family and grandchildren. Not the Duke of Kent.

Meant to say did you see one of the pictures…..just in the corner of one photo is Eugenie giving Kate real death stares. Even the press noticed it. I thought it was so funny as Kate’s being all fake and simpering and Eugenie’s got this absolute murderous look in her eye. Not for the first time either. Xx

I loved everything you said, MrsBBV. Spot on for everyone!
What a huge win for Eugenie, what a miss for poor Beatrice. But I’m so happy for Eugenie, she absolutely made a statement here and seems to me she’s the sister with the most spine, especially when Kate is concerned.

Other faves of mine are, as you very well commented, Sophie, her lovely daughter, Autumn and of course that primrose yellow on the queen.

Poor Kate looks like a dowager here. I agree with everyone here that her dress looks or actually is from Carole’s closet. Is that the hat she was wearing at Charlotte’s christening?

I enjoyed so much seeing the extended family! Happy 90th QEII and happy 95th Prince Philip, it’s time to rest now, you’ve done your lives’ work. It’s time to go behind the scene you two, you’ll be always loved, give Charles a chance as long as he’s not too old to take the job.

Thank you KMR for a great post. I wish all KMRers a happy and long life, like HM’s and Philip’s.

I very much agree with the recognition for the Queen’s (+ the Duke’s) dedication and well deserved retirement.

I want to see the direction and era of Charles as king while he has it in him. I would also like to see the younger royals step up and that the “excuse” they need (2nd in line, etc)… I also think it would be most amazing for the Queen to retire in such high spirits and good health and to still be here to provide behind the scene guidance.

Plus, and in my opinion, a big plus – he seems comfortable in his own skin. He is almost always engaged, smiling, comfortable. Unlike his brother and SIL. He seems to like people and like what he is called upon to do. I’ve never thought the issue with William was the lack of hair – it’s far more than that! He seems miserable and no one looks good when they look miserable. Harry has character and it shines.

            June 10, 2016 at 11:54 pm (10 months ago)

I agree Babbalou, what makes William ugly is the way he behaves. The balding doesn’t bother me. Honestly if he had Harry’s personality I totally would.

    • Snowsie
      June 10, 2016 at 6:42 pm (10 months ago)

      June 10, 2016 at 8:15 pm (10 months ago)

Oh yes, that picture of Harry! I didn’t think it was so bad although we knew of this. Well, these Windsors’ genes are so strong, it seems both brothers may end up like their uncle Edward. It’s OK, they can’t help it. My hubby lost his in his twenties, I married him in his thirties and still is a looker after thirteen years. Thirteen years next month! 🙂

      • jenny
        June 11, 2016 at 1:53 pm (9 months ago)

Isn’t baldness inherited from the mother’s side of the family? Is Di’s brother bald now? know her father seemed to have lost much of his hair, but he was so elderly and had been so ill when she and Charles married.

Di’s brother was in his early 30s at her funeral, right? He seemed to have a full head of hair then, if I recall. Oh, gosh, I think Harry’s hair is so beautiful. He needs to take action. William should have, too. Is it too late for him?

I know people say Wills won’t do it because people would make fun of it. I think they would go along with it.

I think he’d look better if he combed it and styled it, cut it, made it look more mature. It looks so messy all the time. I want him to comb it/part it or something! Look classier, Harry, you have it in you!

95 and 90 years and we still see them working so often and taking their duties seriously. Not to speak of their marriage…Just amazing!

Hardly a miss on clothes here. I know a lot don’t like the way Eugenie and Beatrice dress and actually wouldn’t pick a lot of dresses for myself but I like that they are bit more colourful and try out things.

And Lady Louise is really growing up!

      June 10, 2016 at 6:36 pm (10 months ago)

I just hate it when they get it wrong because everyone has a field day knocking them and they just doesn’t deserve it. They are lovely girls who want to serve and do their duty and they get so much crap thrown at them because of their parents. Thing is Beatrice has a tiny waist so to make her look chunky the way that Burberry did it must have been like wearing a duvet in proportion. I just wish both girls could knock it out of the park, together, on the same day for a run of time and get the sniping, carping journos off their backs. That’s twice in a matter of weeks that Burberry have got it wrong for Beatrice. The headlines have got to knock her confidence.

I dislike that media puts so much focus on the way they dress instead of their work. And mostly focus on the negative things while great looks are hardly worse a comment.

Thing is, they are both not working Royals, yet we see them more often than William and Kate. They care for charities and do their job and while working they look interested and caring! Something others haven’t learned after so many years…

I love Kate’s outfit ….I would wear it. But as I often say I am 20 years older than her. There is no reason for her staid dress sense, at the same age HM was daring and trendy.
HM and PP are beginning to look old and tired. Let’s send them off to Balmoral very soon for a quiet, peaceful, summer. The schedule for the next few days is too exhausting for them. I do wish they would rest and relax more.

I am with you MrsBBV I am getting worried about them both. They are doing a fantastic job for their ages but they really should be starting to take it easy.

I said it up thread too, I wish HM would find it in her heart to retire now. Not for Charles but mainly for hers and Philip’s sake. Imho, they need to enjoy these years in ease and comfort. They are so lucky to have one another at this age.

You know you are probably right but I have half a feeling that once they stop one of them will drop down. I love the idea of them sat in deckchairs next to each other, holding hands, sipping on a drink, sitting on the lawn at Balmoral just watching the world go by……but that’s my wish for them. They would probably be bored in two minutes. Much as I couldn’t do it, I think all this keeps them young. And while the have each other……it’s inconceivable to imagine one without the other. Xx

            June 10, 2016 at 9:33 pm (10 months ago)

MrsBBV, it’s my turn to say you’re probably right. Although the deckchair life is probably mine, or your, idea of retirement, I don’t think HM could do it. Maybe a gradual and substantial delegation of duties to Charles and I dare say to William would be more appropriate for her and Philip.

          • Kristin
            June 11, 2016 at 2:32 am (9 months ago)

I don’t think she would ever retire. It’s just not her thing to do. She promised to serve her country until death and that’s what we will see…
And while we could easily imagine both of them happily retired and enjoying life, they look more like the ones who kinda need that life to keep them going. They are jist so used to it.
but maybe some more breaks wouldn’t hurt!

    June 10, 2016 at 6:45 pm (10 months ago)

I always take a guess at what color the Queen will wear at big events like this, and I’m always wrong. She does look wonderful in yellow. When I see her looking so put together like this, I wonder about how long it took to design and make the outfit. Obviously fabric was sent to the millinar. Was this outfit planned weeks ago.

Kate looks older when she wears Catherine Walker, and I can’t figure out why. Is it the heavy fabric? Is it the trim details? I think she is so slim that she disappears under the weight of the coat-dress. Or maybe she isn’t projecting her personality through all that fabric….what is it? She looks like she’s in her 40s. Are coat dresses for older women? That can’t be it because other young Royal (and non-Royal) women have worn them and they looked good. It seems to just be her….

Eugenie looks fantastic. What a waist!

I think Kate looks quite matronly. The dress is pretty, but too old for her. Eugenie was my best dressed of the day. and you’re right, her waist looks fantastic! Very flattering for her. I know Bea got a lot of press for losing weight, but it looks like Eug might’ve, too.

Happy Birthday to Prince Philip! 😀

I liked Kate’s outfit with the exception of her accessories they don’t go with the outfit. That shade of nude shoes goes with earthy tones not pastels and whites….

I liked Bea’s but it does not feel appropriate for this season if this was christmas I would have loved it.

I really liked Lady Louise, Sophie, Camilla and Zara’s but none came close to Eugenie’s fabulous look. She looks absolutely amazing, I don’t think I loved a royal’s outfit as much as hers, ever.

Need to finish with the best of men, Lord Frederick Windsor and Mike Tindall look fantastic!

I feel like I’m watching the end of an era. HM and PP are starting to show their age. They do deserve rest and to take a great satisfaction of their service. I don’t want to sound mean, but it feels like the beginning of the end. HM looked so lovely. When she smiles, you can still see the young girl in her eyes.

Eugenie for the win! She looks beyond lovely. I agree with another poster that I feel so sorry for the York girls. The constant, often brutal, criticism has got to sting. I think all of the royal ladies looked lovely. I want Sophie’s coat. Now.

As far as Kate is concerned, I’ve got nothing. She needs to learn how to curtsey correctly. And get a stylist. Jason, if you are reading this, I offer my services to Kate. I will style her through the end of the year. She will look both professional, youthful, and event appropriate.

Thank you for putting this up so quickly,KMR.

Beatrice did a handful of events the other day. I wish she got more credit. She would be a wonderful working royal, she’s personable, sweet, and interested. I really like the York girls no matter the criticism they get, a lot of it unfair.

I agree, Ellie. I wish Bea would get more press for good works. The press only wants to talk about her when they don’t like her outfits. It’s unfair and seems to be leftovers of the press’s witch hunt against her mother.

    Happy Birthday Phillip!!!!

I might be in the minority here but I really liked Kate’s coat-dress today. I thought the color and appliques down the front were very pretty. And while her accessories are pretty bland maybe it was so the coat-dress could stand out. Of course this outfit reminded me so much of the outfit Carol wore to the royal wedding, right down to the aquamarine necklace it looks like Kate borrowed from her mother. And while I liked this outfit, I find it rather sad that a 34 year old woman tries to twin her 60+ year old mother.

Of course the Queen looked the best out of all the women today, as she should! Yellow is really her color! Camilla, Sophie, Louise, Zara and Autumn all looked lovely as well and wow did Eugenie get it right today or what!! Wow, that dress was just made for her figure and the bow was a sweet touch. I just can’t go there with Beatrice’s outfit today, I just can’t.

Imho, the light shade of Kate’s coat dress saves it a bit from looking too matronly but still, the appliqués and shape are more fitted for Camilla or Carole.

I also find annoying that Kate’s idea for an aristocratic celebrating event look is a white/beige or pale shade of grey/blue dress. She’s done it for her children’s christenings and if I’m not mistaken, for most formal royal celebrating events. Isn’t that a simplistic sense of ‘royalness’? Including colour doesn’t mean you look less classy or aristocratic, right?

    June 10, 2016 at 7:09 pm (10 months ago)

I actually loved most of the ladies looks. I was not thrilled with the matronly look Kate wore or Bea’s coat/dress, whatever. On a different occasion it may have worked, just too much for this one. Eugenie looked good, the color suits her but could we please pass a note to her to work on her undergarments. She’s a full figured girl and needs the support. Then she’d look outstanding.

Can we talk about Sophia’s posture!! Even when sitting! Lauri she could be your poster girl of posture. I like Autumn’s dress, wasn’t too crazy about the hat plopped onto her forehead though. Lady Louise is growing up!! She looked wonderful.

I don’t know what’s going on with William and his lack of deference with the bows but it is very annoying. Of course he probably expects to receive it from others.

It’s been said before, but Kate really is too thin. Her feet are even starting to look bony.

Very nice to see so much of the family in one place to honor HM.

Hi Lisa, yes Sophie does have lovely posture. However, I’m a bit distressed to see that she is starting to crotch clutch, no, no, no!! although I will say she still manages to keep her shoulders back while clutching so maybe all is not lost.

I loved Bea’s coat for a different occasion. Perhaps a fashion event. I think it was just a bit too busy and fashion forward for this event.

I agree that Kate is much too thin again. You can really sit it in her legs when she curtsies. It’ unfortunate and I hope she is okay. Someone really needs to help her out.

I’m meh on Kate’s outfit. It looks like every other coat dress she has. Same old boring thing. Wrong choice of heels. They blend into her legs. Looks like she isn’t wearing heels. Her curtsy just looks weird. Again, nothing new. Just the same old predictable Kate wardrobe.

Eugenie wins best dressed for me. The dress flatters her figure. And agreed on the head band being cute but not too cute. Beatrice’s coat is too busy. She gets lost in it.

Louise is certainly growing up. I like that she’s wearing things that are age appropriate. And no heels yet for her. To me, that would be too much.

I just have to say one more thing, it really bugs me that the DM puts the Duchess front and center on what really should be the Queen’s day. I am just tired of whole articles devoted to the Duchess at events celebrating the Queen, when the Queen has devoted her whole life to the service of her people and the Duchess only knows the meaning of service as how it pertains to others serving her.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest 🙂

I couldn’t agree more Lauri. DM is still trying to whip a frenzy up over Kate to recreate Diana II in terms of newspaper sales and site traffic. DM is essentially a female paper so they try to appeal to their demographic. All it does is create more resentment about Kate by people like us who want to see Her Majesty taking her rightful place and see it as a snub. At least they got it right with the print editions though.

I absolutely have to agree here!
Beside what did Kate do to deserve the front, she just showed up like everyone else (as ofc she should have).
There was nothing special… let’s celebrate the Queen instead or maybe prince Philip but not someone for just being there.

I have thoroughly enjoyed today’s post. I have been loving the pictures of London decorated for the festivities and today’s ceremony takes me back to my visit to St. Paul’s (wow, almost 2 years ago. Hope to visit London again).

Wow Eugenie!!! I’m so happy you got it right and looked SO amazing! (eat your heart out, Kate!!!! hahahaha). I have always thought Eugenie is quite beautiful. She just needs to lose 10 lbs and hire a stylist. I remember reading Beatrice hired help around W&K’s wedding. She lost weight and had an amazing figure, but I don’t think her stylist got it right much. Beatrice isn’t very pretty either. Sorry to say that. I think a dentist could/should help her. I most certainly would hire THE BEST. She isn’t horrible looking either, but she isn’t pretty and dresses dreadfully. There is a saying in Spanish: There is no such thing as an ugly woman, just poorly styled.

The Queen looked great. Cheerful and happy.
Camilla looked quite nice. That blue flatters her.
Sophie sophisticated and beautiful, as always.
Lady Louise turning into a beautiful young lady. I see the queen when I look at her.
Zara her fun self (meh on her dress).

Kate… typical Kate style. Boring, matronly, painfully skinny. She looks gorgeous in the picture exiting/next to her car and the one next to it (pretty photoshopped or just nice at a distance) but then with the close-up or any facial expressions she looks clowin-ish – this due to the extreme weight loss, i.e. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/06/10/16/35210F9C00000578-3634762-All_smiles_The_Duchess_of_Cambridge_went_to_the_London_Guildhall-a-101_1465572791552.jpg

Bea does more than Kate and gets much less credit for it. She seems like an absolutely lovely girl and someone that I would want to actually be friends with! I wish the press would cover her events more and that Charles wasn’t so eager to push his siblings and their children out of the limelight when he becomes king. If Bea and Eug have animosity towards Kate, I don’t blame them. Them seem like nice enough girls who try to work hard. Kate came in and stole the spotlight and doesn’t seem to have made much of an effort to be friends with them even with how close Wiliam and Harry were to the York girls when they were younger. I think Harry still is pretty close to them but William has probably been sequestered from them by Kate.

Bea and Eugenie are already not working Royals so it’s even greater that they take their “duties” seriously.

I think it was last year when we got a pic of the family walking from church on Christmas. Harry was with Bea and Eugenie and William and Kate walked few metres behind. It doesn’t have to mean anything ofc but fit the impression one gets. You can’t be friends with everyone but it seems like Kate never bothered to get close to rest of family and William is drifting away further and further

I loved Kate’s look today, except for her shoes, I really am not loving them. The pointy toe (what is with her obsession with pointy heels lately??) and the colour… ugh.
Although it would be a little matchy-matchy, the heels she wore with her JP pink orchid dress when they went to Singapore (?) on their SE Asia tour would’ve been much better.

I also loved Eugenie’s look, except I would’ve preferred a knee length hem.

There is an almost birds-eye photo of William and Kate, where his hand is on her back guiding her. At first glance, I thought ‘who is that old man with her?’ before realising it was William with his ever increasing balding. He is looking really old these days!

I’m pretty sure Kate is curtsying out of obligation not out of respect. If she did it out of respect she would find out the proper way to curtsy. Maybe the queen doesn’t care but doing it wrong makes people look stupid. (Also I think that Princess Beatrice also does it this way )
I will add photos of people who try their best to curtsy properly.

Oh my!!! Now that is the proper way to curtsy!!! Kate’s curtsy looked like how a ballerina stands before she begins a ballet recital. Either that or I think Kate watches too much Princess Diaries movies because if I can remember correctly, that is exactly the way the royal maid curtsies to Anne Hathaway in the 2nd movie.

Hands down Eugenie is the winner. She looks beautiful, youthful, and both the radiant color and style of the dress are absolutely flattering.

Kate has been shopping in Carole’s closet again! Mother of the bride outfit. I thought my eyes were playing bizarre tricks on me because she seemed to have lost her feet in those (boring) nude shoes. Look ma no feet! She should lose that hyper busy fascinator too. Can’t make up my mind if those two things sticking out are meant to be an origami swan or horns (reminds me of Angelina Jolie’s Malificent costume).

Re: KM v. Eugenia and Beatrice: I don’t understand the press calling KM a swan while belittling E and B’s looks. Both E and B have English rose complexions and imho that qualifies them for the status of natural beauties. KM looks ok in some photos but in others her face literally looks like it’s melting.

I’m tired of seeing cachectic women who look deathly ill. B and E look healthy and glowing as well as Maxima and Madeline. It’s a joy to see that they are thriving physically and mentally. I also appreciate Camilla’s fashion sense and Sophie, who always looks great. To me, this idea of extreme thinness has gone berserk and is horribly unattractive.

    • Jen
      June 11, 2016 at 1:09 am (10 months ago)

Indiana Joanna, I think the press just wants to stir. Calling Kate a swan immediately sees Beatrice and Eugenie labelled (tacitly) as ugly ducklings. Manufactured ‘rivalry’ = cat fight in press terms, leading to more clicks resulting in more revenue. Plus, the sisters bear the brunt of ill will felt towards their parents: a pretty harsh burden to carry. Beatrice and Eugenie look lovely much of the time, but more importantly, are healthy. Sure, they have a hit-and-miss approach to fashion, but they are young and at least they have a go!

The media obsession with emaciation sends poor messages to all. I have no idea why Kate wants or needs to be as thin as she is but I agree, it is unattractive. And she certainly looks neither happy nor healthy. I hope Charlotte and George are not forced down that path.

I agree. I don’t think Bea or Eug need to lose weight! THey look like normal healthy people. I like that many of the other European royal women haven’t given into this tiny tiny frame obsession. Kate doesn’t look healthy and the bony frame is aging her more, I think.

Kate has what I call Back Boobs – her shoulder bones sick out so far behind if you know what I mean? Far too thin and it’s not appealing but far more importantly too many girls and young women try to emulate her. This is not her natural shape so she is sending a very definite message a la Mrs Simpson – you can never be too thin or too rich. Obesity and extreme thinness are parts of the same circle.

    June 10, 2016 at 10:23 pm (10 months ago)

Let’s hope Charlotte and George ARE feisty kids who are polar opposites of their parents, and maternal grandparents. They’ll need to be to have the remotest chance of a life not immersed in self-absorption, self-pity and indolence, let alone being pimped out by granny Carole.

The 20-year old Amelia looked chic. Eugenie looked great too; better fitting undergarments and a shorter hem would have made it even better. I’m not so down on Beatrice’s outfit as others but she is too slight in build and short in stature to wear that level of drama, I think. It is more suited to the 6ft plus Burberry model. Kate is being dressed by mama. Apart from washing her out, the coat dress is matronly and more suited to a woman 20+ years older. It would look great on Camilla or Carole. Also the length seems to have been taken up to show more leg; it is unevenly hemmed.

    • katemiddletonreview
      June 11, 2016 at 2:36 am (9 months ago)

I think the hemline was intentional so as to leave the lace design complete rather than cut it off awkwardly mid-leaf at the bottom of the coat. I quite like it; I think it’s an interesting detail.

Eugenie looked AMAZING!!! Very youthful and vibrant!!! I am loving it!!! I really hate it when people poke fun at her calling her ”pudgy” and fat shaming her. To me, she (and many other girls who aren’t stick thin) should be proud of their bodies because women, in my opinion, look their very best with curves.

Am I the only one who hates what Kate is wearing? I see people raving about how beautiful she looked on the DM. I can’t quite get it. To me, her coat looked like something Camilla and Carole would wear. Anyone feels the same? I don’t wanna come across as a mean critic. But her clothes are so boring and predictable that I have nothing to talk about this woman. Her work ethic sucks, her communication skills is nonexistent and her clothes are like factory-made pieces where they make many of the same design but with different colors.

Anyone wanna bet the next time we see unofficial photos of her, she’ll be in either a striped shirt or mono colored jumper and jeggings?

Kate’s shoes are very nearly the same color as her legs, and I think she likes that illusion: creating a false impression that she’s taller than she really is. The coat is yet another boring pale blue.

The curtsey is weak and inelegant. She should be bowing her head in respect, and not smiling like she just ripped a massive fart!

Is it me, or does she appear to jot be wearing a dress under her coat? In the last photo, it looks like she’s only wearing the coat…

I have a confession to make: I finally know which one is Eugenie and which one is Beatrice. Thanks to Eugenie’s show stopping look (I adore the look on her) and how stunning she looks, I can now recognize who is who. Beatrice is the one who tries more daring looks, but she doesn’t have that quite something that can pull off a bold dress like that.

I have to say, I actually like Kate’s look and she looks pretty. Usually her close up pictures don’t do her any favours, she’s best to look at from far. However, Kate cannot accessorize- media should not turn her into a fashion icon when she clearly is not one.

I love this yellow on the Queen. It makes her look so warm and happy- her persona has definitely opened up as she has gotten older.

Love Sophie’s coat and it is so event and age appropriate. Lady Louise is clearly in that awkward in between stage between being a little girl and becoming a teenager.

Eugenie is the one with the most amazing breasts! I say that as an envious woman because they look so womanly in everything she wears. My only niggle about yesterday’s outfit was the cutouts meant no bra and I think she had inbuilt or strapless corsetry which didn’t give enough support but she really is glorious. Tiny waist, pendulous boobies and a nice round bum……much better than the stick insect as a role model for young women. If we could just get the wardrobe more right that wrong she would be perfection. She also has the most flawless English Rose skin that she makes up just right and hair so glossy it shines, beautifully and doesn’t rely on wiglets and hairpieces. Why she doesn’t get more credit for her beauty I’ll never know. Apologies if my attention to PE breasts offends anyone but I do so like to admire and celebrate the physical beauty of women especially healthy looking women with curves. The media & society puts such pressure on women to attain unrealistic shapes and sizes as a measure of beauty and this Princess is just so beautiful in all her curvaceous glory.

From my perspective, if anyone could be said to have worn an aging outfit during this event, it was Lady Marina and Lady Amelia Windsor. Everything about them seems dowdy, aging and frankly inappropriate for the event, from hats to shoes. Lady Marina would have looked great in that suit, if sitting in a business meeting at the age of 35. Minus the studded shoes, which seem more appropriate for clubbing than anything else, to me. Lady Amelia will be able to wear that Chanel dress to a funeral when she hits 40. Why wear black to a service in celebration of a birthday? It baffles me. If the color were lighter, either of the outfits would have looked far better and more youthful on either of them. The neck bow/rose/choker thingie on Lady Amelia’s dress would have to go regardless. Do her shoes feature bubble gum? Why on Earth did it make sense for her to wear them? Also, in some pictures one can clearly see the placket parting on that dress in a number of places, revealing the light flesh underneath that black fabric. Just like when Duchess Kate wore the brown shirt dress to a charity. This is, unfortunately, the danger of shirt dresses. Should either be worn at home, or with a matching undergarment.

As for Duchess Kate… I do not find her outfit aging. I thought it was perfectly beautiful, although it was a few notches more noticeable, formal and festive than the more senior royal ladies. In comparison to them, it seemed a bit attention grabbing, whether that has been her intent or not. Many other ladies wore outfits more understated than Kate’s. To keep the focus on the Queen, obviously. For example, Countess Sophie wore a very lovely, formal dress coat, also in light blue – but it was understated compared to Kate’s due to the hat also being blue, and no contrasting embroidery. The very bright white embroidery on the light blue is what makes Duchess Kate’s outfit stand out and command attention to her. I wonder if maybe a darker blue hat and shoes would have toned it down a bit. Ah well. Same could be said about Princess Beatrice, by the way: very busy, contrasty. At least Kate’s color scheme was tasteful. Many ladies wore red, and so I suppose they also could be said to have worn something attention grabbing. But they were not meant to be in all the pictures next to the Queen and Duchess Camilla, the two ladies above Kate in the hierarchy. Heck, Camilla wore a repeat!

I am just happy to never be in a situation where these pesky details are part of my life. I think it would be very difficult to get this right.

Rhiannon, I am glad you are seeing a doctor on Monday. Did you survive Ms. Chicken Legs and her curtsy? OMG.

Here’s to Eugenie for being the Magnificent Lady in Red. I do agree with Lisa on one thing. The bodice pulled a bit too much. Better undergarments would have made 100% perfection, but I thought she looked stunning.

HM in yellow? Fabulous, as KMR. said. And, that brooch! Wow!

Harry is so elegant in all he does. His way of honoring his grandmother was perfect. William, what is wrong with you?

Kate’s look was so Carole. I could just see Ma Middleton in that getup at Pippa’s eventual (Please, God) wedding.

As for the others? I was not over-impressed. The color of Autumn’s dress was lovely, but I did not like her hat and the dress needed something to help it along (accessories).

Sometimes, I read what I wrote and say to myself, “Who the heck do you think you are, Jen?”
Today, I just think, “Yeah. Whatever.”

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and Rhiannon, wishing you a helpful visit to your doctor.

That curtsey was horrible. It hurts me each time I see her do it. It’s awkward and rather juvenile. I have a monster of a hamstring injury, but I could still nail a curtsey.

I’m looking forward to relief. I actually ran yesterday. I did a 10k obstacle race. I was bored, so I did it. It was hot and I went slow. It felt so good to be outside. At one point, I sat in a field of violets and had a good cry. Nothing bad, but just taking in the scenery and feeling gratitude and peace. I’ll pay for it today, lol!

Oh, Rhiannon. Wishing you help from the doctor on Monday!
I can see you sitting in the field of violets. But, crying? Oh, no.
I hope you find continued peace and gratitude in life. Know we are grateful on this blog for you.

Sending prayers out to those who lost a loved one in Orlando, or were injured.
You were there so recently, at such a joyful time. Think of those days and may we all see peace and love in our time.

You are so sweet, jenny! I have a bit of tingling in my hands and feet today (good grief!). I practice gratitude as often as possible. I know that my “troubles” pale in comparison to what others are going through.

My heart hurts for Orlando. I will keep my opinion to myself as I respect KMR’s stance on keeping this blog politics-free. I pray for each and every soul that did not make it home.

Completely superficial comnent, but we often discuss the effect of tge windsor genes on William, but my goodness look at Frederick Windsor. He has been hit HARD by those genes.

William is so arrogant, it boggles the mind. Does he expect this will endear him to his subjects? If so, he’s pretty dumb. Ungracious twerp–so unfit to be king. And the whole family was on the balcony today as opposed to last year. What happened to Charles’ pared-down monarchy? Remember last year Philip wasn’t happy about the rest of the family being banished? Perhaps he won out this time.

What did he do here that was arrogant?

The entire family is always on the balcony for Trooping the Color because it’s the Queen’s official birthday. They would especially all be there this year since it’s such a milestone birthday.

Is it because he took centre stage next to HM rather than Charles, as he’s next in line? I thought that was inappropriate.

I have a slightly off-topic question. Did the press note how much Diana’s outfits cost? I know she was criticized for being a clothes horse, and that people knew her mostly through print media, but did the Daily Mail print the designers and retail price of her clothes, shoes and jewelry? It seems they don’t do this for the Queen or Camilla, only for the younger members of the BRF. I wasn’t paying attention in the Diana and Fergie years, and didn’t live in GB either so I couldn’t know. I ask because I got irritated at the cost of her jewelry for this event, but then realized I only know that because the media posts it.

Most of Diana’s clothes were bespoke and the gift culture was very prevalent back then. The royals weren’t nearly as accountable as they are now. Kate earrings may well have been a private gift. Just because we know where they were from and what they retail at doesn’t mean she bought them herself. She’s not particularly extravagant with jewellery IMO. I imagine her grooming and wardrobe bill is much, much smaller than Diana’s was especially in Diana’s early days. No one knew for sure what her dresses cost but she entered into marriage with circa a handful of formal evening dresses and her mother helped her with her trousseau. In the early days of her marriage it’s said PoW was very encouraging and supportive in building her wardrobe. I don’t recall much off the peg or high street until much later in her life. By the end of her life when she was technically no longer Royal she could accept whatever she wanted and Versace, Chanel & Armani were gifting her whole collections and although she stayed loyal to Catherine Walker and Jaques Azagury I don’t recall very much else that was bespoke. Pure bespoke couture is 5 figures and I doubt even with a 17 million settlement she bought that much and I’m certain she was never charged full price but it was a very grey area. The media mentioned when stuff was new and KP would release details of who made the clothes, shoes and hats but cost never. But then we didn’t have the internet back then and designer clothes weren’t as accessible. Xx

If I remember correctly, at the time the thought was that Kate’s Cartier Trinity necklace was a wedding gift. I’m not sure if that was just an assumption on the part of followers or if the palace actually said that, but that was the thought. If that’s true, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to think these earrings are also a wedding gift since they look so much like the necklace.

Both the Queen & Camilla dress in bespoke. I’m sure it’s discounted but the Queen uses mainly Stewart Parvin and Camilla……Bruce Oldfield & Anna Valentine. Camilla gets a lot of Philip Treacey headwear, not much change out of £1000 a piece there but that’s the only item either wears that I can put a retail price on. Well actually Launer handbags are about £1200 each but again the Queen’s are customised. Oh and the Queen’s Hermes scarves aren’t bespoke. But I imagine they do have an exclusivity clause with everything their dressers buy from the designers. I’m sure their informal clothes will be more ‘downmarket’ but we rarely see that.

The Queen’s and Camilla’s clothes are mostly bespoke and so while the palace does release the names of the designers they don’t released the price of the clothes and because they are bespoke the price isn’t known. It’s easier to find out the price of the younger royals’ clothes because they are ready-to-wear purchases from major designers and the prices of those pieces are easily found out.

Rebecca annoys me. Why the twin shoes? I’m talking about her wearing duplicates of Kate’s shoes. And, Bex is wearing black. The nude shoes don’t cut it to me.
I’m in a bad mood and better snap out of it. Leave for work in a few minutes.

I’m truly sorry to say this but I think Autumn’s hat looks like a turtle shell sitting on her head. I just love her dress and the color and her hat in general, just if it wasn’t in such an unfortunate pattern.

I am sorry I am late to the party. Bad internet access. Let me start with my condolences about the Colorado incident. I am shocked that it has happened and that young people were targeted.

The very good: Eugenie. Eugenie looks stunning. I like the headpiece as well.

The good : Zara , Lady Frederick Windsor and Louise. I like seeing the pink coat on Louise and a white fascinator. Louise looks lovely and carries the look of well. Shouldn’t Louise and James be in school?I like the colour on Zara. Autumn’s dress is lovely but the hat not so much. Beatrice reminds me of a zebra. I like the dress better than I have seen on Beatrice recently.

The not so good. As much as I like the dress on Kate it looks matronly and the hat looks like it has antlers? I like to hear Charlotte is feisty. Kate doesn’t believes a lot in independence does she. That kind of puts me off that she believes too much in traditional roles. There is no flexibility.
