Express: Kate models herself on Prince Philip, won’t have a third child

Express: Kate models herself on Prince Philip, won’t have a third child

The Express has a new article about how Kate Middleton is modeling her royal career on that of newly retired Prince Philip.

The article is pretty fluffy and a bit eye-rolly, but there is one quote from a source which goes against every other quote from a source that we’ve gotten about William and Kate’s family planning: that William and Kate will mostly likely not have a third child.

“THE DUCHESS of Cambridge models herself on Prince Philip and will emulate his royal role as she takes on more duties following his retirement from public engagements, according to royal insiders. Kate, 35, has long been an admirer of the Duke of Edinburgh and has told aides she intends to mirror the way he has supported the Queen for 65 years as she prepares to become Prince William’s consort.
“The Sunday Express can also reveal that the royal couple are unlikely to have any more children now they are poised to increase their official workload on behalf of the Queen, 91, and her 95-year-old husband.
“A well-placed source said: ‘I would be very surprised if they have a third child. They have got a boy and a girl – there is a sense that their family is now complete and they are moving onto the next chapter in their lives.’
“The Cambridges will relocate to London from their Norfolk home Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate in the summer before Prince George starts school in September. Princess Charlotte is expected to be enrolled at the kindergarten at on the same site at Thomas’s Battersea.
“The move comes after Kensington Palace announced in January that William, 34, was quitting his role as an air ambulance pilot to become a full-time royal. The statement said Kate would also step up the number of royal engagements she undertakes as they make Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace their main home.
“A spokesman said: ‘Their Royal Highnesses are keen to continue to increase their official work on behalf of The Queen and for the charities and causes they support, which will require greater time spent in London.’
“An aide said: ‘It’s a sort of happy coincidence rather than something that has been done by design. The Duke of Edinburgh’s decision has been taken over recent months with the thinking having began in earnest at the turn of the year. With Prince George starting school in September and the Cambridges moving back to London, the timing feels right.’
“Kate has long modelled herself on Prince Philip, telling aides she want to emulate the way he supports the Queen while also championing the causes closest to his heart.
“A source said: ‘If you look at Kate’s approach you will notice that it is very much in support of William, first and foremost, but also about carving her own charitable path, as he has done with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and his long involvement with charities like the WWF.’
“Prince Harry will also take a more prominent role following his laudable contribution to last month’s hugely successful Heads Together mental health campaign with William and Kate, and his work on hard-hitting issues like AIDS and the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers. It has been reported that the 32-year-old royal will propose to his girlfriend Meghan Markle 35, so she can be by his side in an official capacity when her adopted home town of Toronto hosts the Invictus Games in September.”

[Express]

The quote about the Cambs not having a third child is opposite of all the other quotes from sources we’ve gotten since Charlotte’s birth about how they will have a third child. Literally, since May 2015 we’ve been hearing about how they’re totally going to have a third, and now this quote from a source is saying otherwise. Hm.

Anyway, I find it interesting that “sources” are now saying Kate is modeling herself on Philip since the “sources” used to say that Kate was modeling herself on the Queen Mother. More hm.

I also think it’s interesting that the “source” brought up the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, since Kate hasn’t set up anything on her own yet. Philip really did make the most of his position, and Kate so far has not. It would be great to see her actually branch out and start her own thing like Philip did with the DoE Award.

Since the Express article ended with mention of Harry and Meghan, I will end mine with a mention of Harry and Meghan. I have launched a new blog about Meghan called Meghan Markle Review. All of my coverage of Meghan will be over there from now on. I will most likely still cover solo Harry over here, but Harry and Meghan appearances will be over there – for example, Meghan came out to watch Harry play polo yesterday. In addition to covering sightings and appearances, I am doing flashback posts about Meghan’s writing and charity work.

  1. This article gave me a good laugh, what utter crap! Thanks for setting up MMR, I’ll take a look later, I still have a few chores to complete. Have a great Sunday KMR, thanks for all your hard work, I hope you’ll do something special for yourself! 🙂

  2. This article is hysterically sugary. No, I expect a third–she wants a third, and it’s a get-out-of-work free card!

Modeling herself on Philip? How so? Ha!

    1. This article is hard Fluff! Its more like HM expect no more babies for taxpayers expense.

Another Sunday article explains HM wants the lazy duo to stop ttheir personal issues ‘my mom died’ and get on with the cou try traditional Royal duties – Royal duties charities for the needy and the country – with these new charities WKand they pull in Harry for his whiny court separate from their father POW his father – seem to be glued on themselves – iinstead of continuing the RF/ POW work for the people – , such as the Prince’s Trust/other Royal foundation that has stood the times and has done great work for GB citizens and the world.

The lazy entitled duchess of waste will have her Prince Philip ‘model??!! – to step up..

  3. “Kate has long modelled herself on Prince Philip, telling aides she want to emulate the way he supports the Queen while also championing the causes closest to his heart.”

This quote is comedy gold. I would pay to see Prince Phillip’s reaction to this quote.

  4. To keep them constantly in the public’s mind, and appearing active, Royal PR re-invents Kate, William and Harry on a cyclical basis; they are always in ‘gonna’ mode: step up, be keen, learn, fill diaries. Their ‘work’ is described as if they are in the trenches when it’s nothing of the kind, not even close.

I suspect the point of this article is to snuff out the suspicion now being raised that W+K were forced into service – returning to London, William giving up his pretend job – due to Phillip’s retirement. It’s now being painted as something oh so serendipitous. Can’t have the Cambridge’s looking work-shy. Again.

Back in the day, Kate wanted to be identified with the QM: “…Kate always used to say that she would have preferred to be like the Queen Mother – someone who was spoilt but loved, and whose voice was never heard.” (“The Sizzle Sisters: Kate and Pippa are one of the hottest double-acts in town”, Victoria Moore & Rebecca English, 2007). So far, Kate is living up part of that: spoiled with endless self-indulgence and when rarely heard, rarely decipherable.

  5. The “source” knows everything! It’s a wonderful human being, avaiable for every newspaper, be it in questions of Diana, Prince Philip, what Kate eats for breakfast, it’s great. haha
I think we can just wait and see if Kate gets pregnant, they will surely not say it.It could be more difficult now, but the Queen and Philip are also parents of four children. And Elizabeth II was the one wearing the crown and carrying two children after the coronation.
I hope Kate will do what feels right.I loved her visit to the farm.If she likes such things, she seems more authentic in her work, although they can’t always choose their visits.

    1. Prince Henry Sparkle at the Classic Polo event for a second day! Hopefully, an announcement is near and or this is preparation for Prince Harry to have Meghan together at his side at Invictus Games and other events.

Good to see the real Royals take center stage – Prince Harry’s life!! – not whiny bill middelton court (who must not be please middleton make believe non royal wedding is knock down a peg…) for waity carol wanna be royal ‘Private’ wedding – yet with all the full on celebrity PR scam and daily briefing campaign.

  6. That quote is comedy gold.

Especially since according to the Times, the Queen has ordered them to stop navel gazing and do proper royal duties focused on state.

I suspect this express article is their response to the Times articles. The DM cut and paste the article as well, and i’m posting both incase the Times one disappears behind a pay wall.

    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/stop-the-soul-baring-queen-tells-princes-s3przbqj8?shareToken=19bb52078dfd46a92abe61d0c33a1d92

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4481486/Stop-soul-baring-Queen-tells-princes.html

And if you read the Times article, KP has changed the wording about how much HT raised to say that the princes have collectively raised £10M over the past decade rather than the former assertion that HT had raised £10M.

I do understand why there was a collective eyeroll at BP over HT since we all had it too. Especially since Philip’s mother was in an asylum for most of his young life and he was abandoned by his father and sisters and essentially raised himself as he was passed from one relative to another. Marriage was the first stability he ever had, and later he brought his mother to live at BP until her death. He learnt sign language to communicate with her because she was profoundly deaf.

    1. That’s quite the change – 10 million in a decade vs in a few months. Now I’m curious how much HT raised.

    2. The sunday papers are full of articles about BP or from BP, but the one thing coming through loud and clear is that William is a slacker who is going to be reined in.

It says alot that BP would sanction wording that implies the above in any media discussion about the heir.

      1. Herazeus, I have lived in hope that Willy would finally get a smackdown and now you’re saying it’s happened. I still can’t quite believe it. Since you’re the expert, thanks for bolstering our suspicions and my hope.

My gosh the future is looking juicy. I wonder if they had to bribe Willy even further. Perhaps they (i.e., the taxpayers) gave him his own helicopter.

      2. Totally agree!

Hence, he was summon to BP the next day (disguise as +1), since he stay hidden with cheese and toast and missed the Monarchy significant day of DOE Rretirement announcement and St James ceremony. HM gave Willnot last Orders from the TQ – instead of his father, who he refuse to listen to instead counsel by carol waity middelton the common.

      3. I think that was the tantrum for Christmas and refusal to attend and be close to his ill, elderly grandparents. William would rather have a fit and go to the Middletons who worship the ground he walks on and happily endure his stroppy behavior (I love the word stroppy, when I’d have a fit as a little one my grandfather would tell me to stop having a strop!), than his family that expects him to behave like a royal and do his job. They were given this ultimatum that Philip feels like retiring, they must step up, so he had a hissy fit.

      4. That would explain the line about how the Cambridge’s move to London is ” a happy coincidence rather than something that has been done by design”. I swear, the PR firms and papers are responding to comments on this site.

    3. I did not know that about Philip (the sign language part) so thank you, Herazeus! That seems to explain the kind words his grandchildren (especially his York granddaughters) always seem to say about him. Family means everything to Philip because it’s something he didn’t have as a child.

      1. Kimothy: Philip’s mother is amazing inspite of her difficulties.

Despite being deaf, she taught herself to talk in several languages and was an expert lip reader as well as the sign language.

During the WW2, she sheltered many fleeing Jews and was such a great help on that front that Isreal gave her an honour of merit ( can’t remember what the Isreal honour system calls it) and she is buried there.

As she became a nun in her later life, she went everywhere dressed as one and can be seen in photos of the Queen’s coronation leading the procession in her nun’s habit.

    4. I found this article interesting, but not sure it’s credible. If true, a huge slap to the trio. KMR, will you be covering it?

      1. This story is legit because it comes from the Times.

BP always uses the times for it’s media games AND the times rarely comments on the royals unless sanctioned to do so.

You might still have op-eds on the royals within the pages, but they are few and even fewer op-eds claiming the Palace as a ‘source’.

If the times says the palace (BP) said etc, you can be sure it’s the palace (BP) talking.

If the DM cuts and pastes an article from the times or elsewhere and then adds it’s own opinion of the content, that is worthy of side eye of the resulting article. It doesn’t deligitimise the source aka the times article.

    5. The Times article says the £10 million raised is from the two princes playing polo for children’s charities. Does polo attract incredibly high donations? We’re still none the wiser about what has actually been raised by HT and how much will be allocated to the eight charities until the annual accounts are released.

If BP is reining in the trio, they might also like to stop issuing such sugary clap trap about them; they are emboldened by their own suck-up publicity.

      1. The London Marathon Charity has not released the 2017 figures for the amount of money that was pledged to specific charities. If 10 million was raised by HT, it would have increased the Royal Foundations funds by 200%. In 2015 there was a change in how the RF reported their financials. There was a reconfiguration of the RF and it now calls itself a charity. Their total charity funds at 31Dec2016 was GBP 5,007,853. 10 million would have been a huge boost in funds.

The 1st day of polo was for Harry’s charities Sentebale and Wellchild. The 2nd day was for Will’s charities Marsden and Tusk Trust. No figures have been released to state how much was raised for these 4 charities.

        1. GraceH, thank you for responding; I hoped you would. Your excellent overview of financials a while ago was very informative and bears re-posting in full. I’m assuming a change of status from foundation to charity is beneficial from a tax perspective? But are there different obligations re. disbursement of funds if moving from one status to another?

To be clear, The Times article says £10 million pounds has been raised by Harry and William for ‘children’s charities’ through their polo activities; not sure if any are part of the RF suite. The timeline is not specified either – I’m assuming over several years. The article does not mention HT/RF.

The first day of polo mentioned that Harry’s charities, Sentebale and WellChild would be the recipients; the second day’s proceeds given to William’s charities, The Tusk Trust and The Royal Marsden. These are not part of the RF as far as I can see.

Plus I’ve noticed an American Friends section of the RF that I had not seen before: http://www.royalfoundation.com/american-friends/

I’m still none the wiser what has been specifically raised for HT since its inception. I guess time will tell.

          1. It’s all a muddle. Thanks to y’all for trying to makes some sense out of this mess. Unless there is complete transparency, all of this seems shady as hell to people like me. Without accountability what’s the point? For all I know the money is being ploughed back into the care, feeding and transport of their polo ponies.

          2. Maven, I think the PR distorts not only the trio’s contributions but also ‘success’ of the HT initiative. Once we see actual figures we will have a clearer idea.

          3. None of the 4 charities mentioned in the polo matches Sat/Sun have been specifically mentioned as recipients of funds in the annual Accounts of the RF in 2013-2015. In 2012 Sentebale received funds from the RF. Could be that Audi sends funds directly to the charities bypassing RF. Remember that just because W, K or H are patrons of a charity doesn’t mean that they fund the charity through their foundation. Patron does not mean donor. The Accounts for 2016 have not yet been released.

          4. @ Jen “Plus I’ve noticed an American Friends section of the RF that I had not seen before…”
That tax-exempt organization, based in NYC, appears to be dormant after 2013.

          5. @Jen “Your excellent overview of financials a while ago was very informative and bears re-posting in full.”

After searching, I think the post you are looking for is in the 04 Jan 2017 blog entry, my second post for that day. Will put this in the 08 May blog comment section as well.

          6. Thanks GraceH! I really appreciated your crystal clear explanation earlier. When the accounts are published we can review them with an informed understanding that on my part was lacking. I’m hoping a good amount has been allocated to the HT charities, given the increased demand for their services.

    6. Haha navel gazing!! That’s a first!! Must use it in the future.
I love British sayings. Numpties and wankers are my fav =)

        1. We have some great words in Lancashire, UK. I like skriking, which means moaning or grizzling (another great word) usually said to kids, stop skriking or I’ll give you something to skrike about! I also like nesh, midden, and mithering.

  7. If this source is legit, then I think the source heard Kate say how she wants to be like PP and support her spouse. From there, the source got overly excited and began dreaming that Kate would be taking on 300+ days of work in the near future. I do think she will up her workload considerably, but when you’re talking with starting at a number of around 70, that isn’t so difficult and praise-worthy, in my opinion.

      1. Wouldn’t it be funny if they took her at her PR word and immediately scheduled her diary to match Philip’s ongoing diary as well as having to shadow Charles when he goes to attend to Sandrigham, Balmoral, Windsor and BP, on top of her own charities? With no excuse accepted except hospitalisation for a serious condition that requires operation.

My guess is that she would crumble in less than a week.

And that’s taking into account the very luxurious circumstances in which they both operate with a full court of staff to make it easier at every turn.

        1. OMG, that would be hysterical.

So Kate, we hear you want to work! Well, here’s your schedule for the next month, snowflake.

        2. I’m guessing that W&K staff is no where near 20% as experienced as that of HM&PP and the PoW. Without some cooperation between the staff of all 3, nothing will ‘pick up’ this year. Unless W&K accept guidance from the other two offices (HM & PoW) they won’t make any changes in 2018 either. No amount of shaming in the press will make the W&K faction change their ways. Money talks; BS walks.

          1. Didn’t the trio reject experienced palace staff when setting up KP precisely because they wanted a ‘fresh take’ with people their own age = not have their authority challenged, as well as have no leaks back to BP/CH? Dismantling the KP culture will be the hardest task. It’s not only publicly incompetent but also seems to shroud itself in secrecy from the other courts. This will be interesting. Get the popcorn, Ginger! (West Wing reference).

  8. Nauseating. Keen to do this, keen to do that….once she is a ripe old age like Prince Phillip she can be congratulated. Kate and William want the accolades and respect before they have earned it. Only it doesnt work that way.

  9. ““Kate has long modelled herself on Prince Philip”

Bwahahahaha! They’re really pulling out all the stops in glorifying her image. We’re still waiting for her to “hit the ground running”.

    1. Well, he’s the royal who is getting some sympathetic media attention at the moment, so of course clueless, indolent, insipid W&KM would soul leach onto Phillip’s profile of lifelong commitment and claim it as their own. They do that with everything.

The two half wits will never understand hard work, sacrifice and doing the right thing regarding their position. You have to wonder why they are so empty as human beings.

      1. Because they have been infantalised all their lives. Their roles require them to be of service to others, which is foreign. Their expectations are that people are to service their needs. Huge disconnect. Plus too much privilege, too much adulation for doing nothing.

    2. Haha and the perennial favorite “eager to fill their diaries”
We’ve seen how eager she’s been so far this year…
I can’t imagine being such a vacuous individual and being content with that life. Especially when you are meeting such amazing people from all walks of life. It’s a shame it’s wasted on people who can’t/won’t appreciate it

  10. Ah, I can just see the headlines now:

“KATE TO FOLLOW PHILIP’S EXAMPLE, RETIRE FROM ROYAL DUTIES IN AUTUMN”

I think that’s the way William and Kate would most like to follow in Philip’s footsteps.

And I know it’s just bad timing, but in the first picture of Kate with Philip, she looks like she wants to attack.

With that, off to check out the new blog!

    1. That is about as much as Kate has modelled herself on Phillip, looking to retire from duties. She has done nothing with her life. It is an insult to him to even make the comparison.

  11. Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn’t William been the one who just wants two children while Kate is the one who wants three? I feel like I’ve been hearing that line since they’ve been engaged.

The only attribute of Phillip’s that Kate can claim herself is the tendency to say inappropriate things that make the rest of us cringe. Phillip is un-PC, Kate is just inane. Peas in a pod, those two.

    1. I think had they had two boys William would have been okay with a third to get a girl, now that they have Charlotte who is the angel from heaven and George is the awful bad child, they don’t need a third in his eyes.

      1. I cannot believe Kate will stop at two kids. She may be “keen” about staring her work load, but there’s nothing like a pregnancy to put the brakes on that. No, she’s going to have more kids. I am positive about that!!

          1. No, there’s nothing like a baby to keep down the work load for Kate. She’s may already be pregnant, so we shall see! And, KMR, congrats on your new Meghan blog. You are one busy woman!!!!!

  12. Right. Sure she does. Do we expect anything close to these numbers out of her, plus her managing the private estates of Sandringham and Balmoral for decades?

    http://www.sfgate.com/news/world/article/14-books-5-493-speeches-Prince-Philip-by-the-11120826.php

    1. When i saw the headline of this article, my first thought was that she can’t manage her own household nevermind trying to do a tenth of Philip’s household management duties.

His motto is ‘support HM’, her motto is ‘take care of me’

      1. If he is her role model in that the case We can look forward to Kate making racist inappropriate comments, being grumpy, cursing at people, and other funny off color remarks. it’s going to be a fun couple years. If that’s the case then Kate would have to get a major personality transplant because she’s boring as hell !

  13. Her staff do realize that it’s no longer April Fools Day, right? There seem to be more fluffy articles than usual, possibly as a way to detract from
The nude photo trials and all the details that could come out.

    1. I haven’t been able to get over there in the last few hours. Heading over there now.

  14. I literally cannot think of someone more the opposite of Kate than Prince Philip. Other than marrying into the same family, I can’t think of a single thing they have in common.

  15. LOL What a crock of sugar and rubbish. My eyes may never recover from this eye roll. How utterly stupid and ignorant do these nimrods who write this utter nonsense think we are.

  16. Of course Kate is modelling herself on someone – she is an empty vessel. She is indeed the Queen Mother – spolied and accommodated, with little to offer other than being an enabler of Willnot. She has no work history and simply waited for Willy to propose, and then popped out an heir and spare as required. I fully expect that she will not lift her game in 2017 – she’ll have to trot along with George and Charlotte to school come September . . . . I stongly doubt that she is really involved in her charities other than turning up to the photo op events in yet another expensive new outfit that is similar to ten others.
All the fluff pieces in the world can’t change reality.

  17. William wanted 2 kids (one of each) and Catherine wanted 3 (she has 2 siblings). I can imagine he convinced her that they don’t need another.

    1. Oh, there doesn’t seem to me like there would have been room to change her mind. I see another baby, or two, on the horizon. The idea of work is just not in the Duchess’ cards.
