Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge began their five day tour of Pakistan today, October 14. They landed in Islamabad late in the evening on RAF Voyager (they flew over on the same plane at the UK media).

For the arrival in Pakistan, Kate wore a bespoke Catherine Walker ensemble, opting for a dress and trousers in aquamarine blue. The dress has a swoop detail at the neckline in the front and back. This is a take on the shalwar kameez which is the national dress of Pakistan.

Kate’s dress is a bit see-through on the bodice. I’m sure the dress is fully lined, but I can see were the trousers begin under the dress which is a bit yikers.

When I was looking at Pakistan-based Zeen, which Kate wore to an event two weeks ago, I found some beautiful pieces, so I hope Kate goes for some Pakistan designers during the tour.

Kate wore beige heels from Rupert Sanderson, and carried a gold clutch from Zeen. Her earrings are also from Zeen. These IDs are from UFO No More. I looked at the Zeen website earlier, because the earrings seemed Zeen-y to me, and I couldn’t find them; but UFO No More found the links.

Kate pulls her face quite a bit during events, which can look manic in photos, but I watched the arrival video for this event and I think I now understand why she makes these faces. Kate appears to be quite aware of the cameras, and smiles a basic smile a good chunk of the time – for the cameras, for the people she’s listening to – so when she then has to greet someone (like the kids she was speaking to in the below photo), she has to pull an even bigger smile to make sure the difference in her facial expression is noticed by the new person she’s talking to. That’s my theory for today, anyway.

Airport arrivals are airports arrivals – greeting people, accepting flowers, yada yada – you’ve seen one, you’ve kind of seen them all. But the best part of this airport arrival was the little girl who handed Kate flowers (her name wasn’t released, as far as I’ve seen). She wore an embroidered aquamarine/teal dress and a little tiara in her hair. I love it so much; I wish we could have seen her from the front.

KP didn’t release the full itinerary due to security reasons, but they did release a statement saying the tour would span over 1,000 km “[f]rom the modern leafy capital Islamabad, to the vibrant city of Lahore, the mountainous countryside in the North, and the rugged border regions to the West”. The tour will “pay respect to the historical relationship between Britain and Pakistan, it will largely focus on showcasing Pakistan as it is today – a dynamic, aspirational and forward-looking nation”.

I think this was the only event today, so the tour will officially begin tomorrow.
