William & Kate join Charles & Camilla for DMRC visit

Back on February 11, Prince William and The Duchess of Cambridge joined Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall for a visit to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre Stanford Hall.

The four royals, whom I don’t think have ever done a joined engagement as a couple before this one, toured the center and met patients and staff. The DMRC Stanford Hall rehabilitates some of the most seriously injured members of the armed forces with facilities including gyms, swimming and hydrotherapy pools, and social spaces and places for relaxation. The center also focuses on the mental health of its patients by providing activities such as gardening and woodworking.

The DMRC Stanford Hall is part of the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC) program, the idea of which came from the 6th Duke of Westminster, who passed away in 2016, back in 2008. After meeting with various members of the MoD, the Duke funded a year-long study in 2010 on the viability of a rehabilitation center for both military and civilians on the same site. There was a fundraising campaign in 2011 with the Grosvenor family donating over £100 million. After the 6th Duke’s death in 2016, his son Hugh continued with the project, and in June 2018 the 7th Duke officially handed over the facility to the nation at a ceremony attended by Prince William, who is patron of the DNRC. During this visit, William took part in a wheelchair basketball demonstration. The video is actually pretty charming – William misses the basket, so Charles steps in and pushes William in the wheelchair closer to the basket; William still misses and Charles gives him a shoulder shake, but eventually William makes a basket and both royals throw up their hands in celebration. It’s a nice moment which is very rare to see from these two.

Also during the visit, Camilla receives a handmade copper poppy as a gift from patients who use metalworking as part of their occupational therapy program.

In true Kate fashion, she went with a military theme for her wardrobe for this visit. Kate loves a good theme. For this outing, she chose a new military-inspired jacket and skirt from Alexander McQueen which looks so similar to all the other military-inspired McQueen outfits she has that I legitimately thought this was a repeat until I looked it up. This jacket and skirt are from the pre-Fall 2017 collection so has been sold out for a long time and I can’t find prices, but this suit probably cost at least $5000 judging off of what’s currently for sale on the McQueen site.

Kate’s purse is also new, and also from McQueen – the mini Wicca satchel. Kate’s is in black leather and is no longer available, but this small Wicca in red went for $1,790. The boots are from Ralph Lauren and are a repeat from 2018. Kate brought back her Mappin & Webb Empress earrings.

Camilla didn’t so much theme the outfit as she did the brooch, opting for a green coat and bag and a military badge brooch.
