Hot Guy of the Month – August: Crown Prince Haakon

Hot Guy of the Month – August: Crown Prince Haakon

This Hot Guy of the Month post is a bit late, since it’s already August 7th, but better late than never! This month we’re looking at the long-suggested Crown Prince Haakon of Norway. The only royal dude who can really rock that beard.

Crown Prince Haakon is the son of King Harald V of Norway and Queen Sonja. Haakon was born on July 20, 1973 (Happy late Birthday, sir!). Haakon has an older sister, Princess Martha Louise. At the time of Haakon’s birth, male primogeniture was the law, granting Haakon precedence in the line of succession over his older sister. But the law was changed in 1990 to absolute primogeniture, granting the eldest child, regardless of gender, to take precedence in the line of succession. Meaning Haakon’s daughter is ahead of her younger brother in the line of succession.

Haakon served in the Royal Norwegian Navy where he holds the rank of Admiral. Haakon holds the The Order of St Olav (Grand Cross with Collar), and the The Norwegian Order of Merit (Grand Cross), as well as several medals.

In terms of his royal duties, Haakon is concerned with Norwegian industrial development and innovation, environmental issues, cultural freedom, and cultural expression through film and music, as well as international issues. This is shown through his patronages and education.

Haakon has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as an MSc from the London School of Economics in development studies, specializing in international trade and Africa. Haakon is Patron of fifteen organizations including: The Crown Prince and Crown Princess’ Humanitarian Fund, The Norwegian Film Festival, 4H Norway, and several music-related organizations.

Haakon’s love of music is expressed through his several music-related Patronages. He also loves sports and has attended several Olympic Games.

Haakon married Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby on August 25, 2001, making her Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Due to her past (which included drugs and an out-of-wedlock child), many in Norway did not approve of Matte-Marit, but Haakon loved her and Harald supported his son’s choice of wife, and the wedding happened as scheduled.

Fun facts: Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark served as Haakon’s best man at the wedding. Prince Charles was a vocal supporter of Haakon and Mette-Marit and attended their wedding; in return, Haakon and Mette-Marit were the only foreign royals to attend Charles’ 2005 wedding to Camilla.

Haakon and Mette-Marit have two children together: Princess Ingrid Alexandra (born January 21, 2004) and Prince Sverre Magnus (born December 3, 2005). Mette-Marit has one child from a previous relationship: Marius Borg Høiby.

BTW, about this picture. I know many of you have commented about the Swedish Royal men not wearing the traditional clothing when the ladies do, so I wanted to include the above photo because the Norwegian men do wear traditional clothing.

  1. Be still my heart. Haakon is so handsome. I think that his love for Mette-Marit is wonderful. It’s also said that he has a great relationship with his stepson.

I do appreciate that the Scandinavian royals are all so close. They action together and are hugely supportive. There was a picture of Haakon, Mette-Marit, Vic, and Dan at a filling station. How cool is that?

This was a nice post to end a slow week for me. Thanks, KMR!

  2. Haakon earns this award a thousand times over. He seems to be a loving father and stepfather, as well as a great husband. And how adorable is that picture of him playing the guitar?

      1. I agree. Just watched it and I thought Ingrid was adorable and her parents so connected. What a great way to bond with his daughter.

  3. Loving husband, good step-father and father, handsome, intelligent, loves music and sport, military background, unstuffy royal…

What more could you want? KMR good choice for August.

  4. Thanks for a great post!!! No better way to start a Friday than looking at and reading about a handsome man!!

Glad to see the men dress up in traditional clothing alongside the women. It bugs me to see the women wearing these get ups while the men get to wear their regular suits.

Haakon is handsome, fun, intelligent (actually using his college education, hint, hint, wink, wink, yeah I’m talking to you) has taken his wife’s son in as one of his own (much applause),plays guitar and seems to be an all round good guy. M-M is a lucky woman!

  5. Oh, yes. He’s hot! An all around great guy, it seems. I loved the photo of him with the refugee child in Jordan. So kind and caring. I also loved him rocking that guitar. And, that beard!
His love for his wife is lovely and they seem to have a very good marriage. All in all, as others have posted, he’s great looking, intelligent, caring, concerned about important global issues — and working on ways to make things better — and, a great husband, dad and step-dad, too.

A great choice for August, or any month. Thanks, KMR!

    1. I liked the photo of him with the refugee child, too. I knew you guys would like that one.

  6. Oh, this man has it all! So handsome, so sexy. A great Royal all around.
Love his devotion to his wife and children and stepson. Love his smile and those eyes!
He’s intelligent and using his Royal status to do great things for others. Who could ask for anything more? And, oh, I loved the picture with the refugee child, too!

Great Hot Guy of the Month. Thanks from your devoted followers, KMR.

    1. Yes, she is. I thought that was interesting when I read that. I believe QEII and Harald are cousins or something. They are related somehow.

      1. Princess Maud, one of the daughter’s of Edward V11 married Prince Carl of Denmark who in turn for some reason became King Haakon V11 of Norway. I remember seeing their photos of each other at Osborne House. Princess Maud certainly did well as her husband was really handsome and she was just average looking.

      2. QEII and Harald V are second cousins. I think Philip is second cousins once removed to Harald, but I’m not sure (relationship charts always give me a headache).

        1. No wonder… I couldn’t understand how the BRF would be friendly to any other royals (when I read about Charles being a supporter of his marriage and them attending his wedding to Camila).

  7. Thank you KMR. An awesome choice. I really like how he gets down to the level of the children and engages with the work that you show here. I think he has handsome eyes and appears to be a good family man. Princess Anne has common sense so Haakon is lucky to have a good adviser. They say that Maud married a looker and those genes have continued down the line. I like the shot of all the family. It must be difficult for his step-son at times and yet he is not burdened with royal duties.

      1. Maybe Marie his wife cheers him up and being a mother already has witnessed her nurturing side as a mother. It is refreshing that she was honest with him and in turn he supports her. We don’t hear very much about the Scandinavian Royals here in the UK. If one of the royal family here so much as sneeze it is all over the papers.

  8. CP Victoria is his daughter Ingrid’s godmother isn’t she? It is good to see the Scandinavian Monarchies working together. I have to say our Monarchy do seem isolated in comparison.

    1. The Brits do seem very isolated compared to the rest of the European monarchies.

    1. Oops. Totally forgot about Felipe. Felipe definitely rocks the beard well, too!

    2. I like him with and without the beard. Gosh he looked like such a young boy at his wedding. Now the beard gives him a mature-sexy-manly vibe lol.

Felipe looks better with the beard, IMO.

    1. He was 4 when they married. He’s either 18 or almost 18. While he’s not in the line of succession, he is a visible part of the royal family during official events. He’s even on their website. He went to Pierre’s wedding with Mette-Marit and Haakon.

He caused a stir recently when he joined Instagram and shared his location on his pictures. It was considered a security violation.

      1. Marius is a very good looking young man. I love that he is included in the web site and the family events. Obviously Haakon loves him as much as his biological kids.

        1. I, too, love that Marius is not excluded from family events just because he’s not biologically royal. He is still apart of that family and Haakon’s son, even though not biologically.

  9. Unlike Carl Philip, who looks to me like he’s never washed his face, Crown Prince Haakon rocks the tan and beard.

    1. Yeah, Haakon looks like he actually takes care of his face and beard. Whereas, as you say, Carl Philip looks like he just doesn’t wash himself.

  10. I loved seeing him as Hot Guy of the Month.
He is so handsome and sexy and has the brains and kind heart to make him irresistible.

I love seeing his pictures and how loving he is towards his wife. I have read so many mean comments about her (particularly her appearance and sense of fashion) I think it must “pain” her “haters” that she has such a hot loving prince (it must pain those unfortunate looking royals too lol ).

What is not to love about this prince? ♥ (sigh)

  11. What is going on with bill? KMR, correct me if i am wrong! He has been there for less than a month? Now there is a sucurity issue? I do not beleve that no one about this issue! bill does not know what he wants jmo! I think of all the things that were put in place, so bill could do this job! Why are people allowing him to cause chaos? Can anyone explain to m please? I would certainly appreciate it! May i am very clueless? Halia.

    1. Apparently there’s an app that allows anyone to track civilian aircraft. Since Willy’s air ambulance qualifies, there is an app for that. Former royal security officers who cluck like mother hens to the tabloids every time there is any type of “incident,” nowadays (as opposed to the good ole days when THEY were in charge) are concerned because the Daily Mail was able to track Willy’s movements and be in position to take photos of him before the ambulance responded to the accidents, because they could track the flight of the air ambulance. It is an incredibly STUPID idea but Willy’s already demonstrated his stupidity time and time again. He wanted to be “normal.” Now he is. I’m sure he has protection officers around him, so I’m not too worried. Also he’s incredibly BORING, so I’m not too worried.
