Sophie, Countess of Wessex, wears teal pants to Tall Ships Regatta

While we wait for Kate, the MIA Duchess, to make an appearance (she visits Oxford on Sept. 8; and just added, she’ll be at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games on Sept 10, and the Drumhead Service at Lee Valley Athletics Center on Sept. 11), let’s take a look at Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and her awesome teal pants.

Sophie was at the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta and reception on September 5, as Patron of the Association of Sail Training Organisations (ASTO)–Sail Training International hosted the event. Sophie visited with the trainees who sailed in the Regatta. Sail Training International is all about the development and education of young people, so at least half of the trainees on each of the 19 boats are under 25. Sophie got in on the royal selfie trend when she took a selfie with Leading Sea Cadet Morgan Smith (above).

James Stevens, Chairman, Sail Training International and ASTO, said, “I was delighted that our Patron HRH The Countess of Wessex met many of our trainees and also attended the ASTO reception on board the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s accessible tall ship Tenacious to congratulate the ASTO skippers. They achieved great results in the race and do vital work providing challenge and adventure for young people.”

Let’s talk Sophie’s fashion, because it’s truly awesome. Sophie wore a black blazer, purple shirt with a shark (?) design, teal pants, and tan Converse. I love this look so much. It’s appropriate for the event, casual but put-together, yet fun and awesome. This is how you show personality through clothing. Only someone with a lot of confidence and a fun personality would wear teal pants (and pull them off without looking ridiculous). I love it so much. Go Sophie!

Incidentally, the purple shirt Sophie is wearing is actually something she acquired during a previous royal engagement. In March, Sophie and Edward visited the Isle of Wight and Sophie visited Rapanui, a local sustainable fashion label, and picked up this shirt (it’s made out of bamboo). How great is it to see Sophie wear a piece of clothing from a place she visited during a previous engagement. That’s awesome that she’s supporting them by wearing this shirt to an engagement.

  1. Wow! we just don’t see enough of what Sophie gets up to….these are great pics though; LOVE the teal pants and the rest of her outfit; it is just right in my view for the occasion – nicely smart/casual. Sophie looks to be happily engaged with the event and relaxed! she’s enjoying it and so are the crowd. It looks like if you asked her what it was all about she could tell you – that’s my gauge with these events…..great to see, thanks KMR

    1. Sophie seems to have a real ease to her. I bet that comes from years of experience; she’s been doing the royal thing for a good long while now. I love the outfit and agree that it’s great for the occasion.

    1. I wish the press covered her more. I think she does an excellent job, and it should be acknowledged.

  2. I can take or leave this outfit, but I think it’s awesome that she is wearing that shirt to support a good cause WHILE supporting a good cause. Sort of a two-fer. I mean, you know her clothes will be scrutinized, so why not play it up for good…as opposed to just supporting another label/designer. Also, Sophie, thank you for never wearing Wedges of Doom, like someone else we could mention. I have to say that Sophie really seems to “click” with people while still remaining professional. She is the best thing to happen to the RF in years.

    1. I love that she wore that shirt. It’s a great way to show her support long after she left the Isle of Wight. It’s a cute shirt, too.

  3. I think all of the above comments are right on. Everything about this appearance is positive. Look in the background of the selfie being taken by Cadet Morgan Smith…I love how absolutely thrilled those cadets are. Sophie seems genuinely happy to be there and so are they to have her there. Thanks, KMR, for covering Sophie.

  4. Sophie’s outfit is terrible! The color combination is horrible! The only thing I like about the outfit is… Who am I kidding there is nothing I like about it. She should wear this only in the privacy of her home. As far as her physical appearance she looks radiant! I love the length and style of her hair. She looks like she has either lost weight or has been working out, either way she looks great! A true beauty!

  5. The more I learn about her, the more I like her. The outfit is appropriate and I agree about the t-shirt. Sophie is a gem and is a great representation of the Royal Family. I will say this: the less that Kate works, the more that we will see Sophie’s, and others, hard work. The pressure is on for Kate. Not like she cares, though…

Breaking news: Kate is pregnant. So, there you have it. Just fell in love with Sophie even more.
